I haven't owned it, but handled it once. Compared with the K200D, it feels more canonlike.
You probably know the history.
Shortly after Pentax started the K200D (which at that time was their cheapest model), all the competition introduced entry level models which offered LV. Besides this new feature, the K200D was still much better, but it was now far too expensive for entry level.
The quick fix was the K-m/K2000.
There was a minimum of development cost, as they used all the internal stuff of the K200D. Just a lighter, cheaper body, no weather sealing, no top LCD, no battery grip.
To keep selling the K200D, they finally had to reduce the price by nearly 40%, probably loosing money with every sale. They had to stop production earlier than they had intended.
The K200D is slightly bigger and heavier, but there is a reason for this. It is every bit as sturdy as the K20D.
