I would like to post a kind of reference for getting access to the AF settings of the K200D.
Everything mentioned here you will find also in the thread linked to by the OP, but to get it you would have to read through the whole thread.
1. With an editor, write a plain text file containing just one line (mind the brackets and underlining!):
[DEBUG_MODE EN]
Store under the name
MODSET.445Remarks:
a) The command [DEBUG_MODE DIS] mentioned by polur101 in the linked thread is neither needed nor would it make sense, as the debug menu contains the disable command anyway.
b) Make sure your editor does not automatically add a ".TXT" extension without showing it to the user. The camera would not recognize the file. In MS Windows, this behaviour can be changed somewhere in the explorer settings (depending on version).
2. Store the file in the root directory (the highest directory) of the in-camera formatted SD card. You can do this with any SD card you want to use with the camera. The file will be ignored if the memory card door is closed when switching on.
3. For AF adjustment, leave the memory card door open while you switch the camera on, then close the door.
The display will show the debug menu, the cursor positioned on the first item saying
DEBUG MODE <EN>.
The
<EN> can be toggled to
<DIS> with the left/right cursor keys. Confirm with the
OK button while
<EN> is shown.
4. The camera is now in debug mode forever, even switching the camera off and on will not change this. To cancel debug mode, leave the memory card door open when switching on, toggle
<EN> to
<DIS>, confirm with
OK, switch off.
Remark: Keeping a button pressed while switching on (as mentioned in the linked thread) is NOT needed with the K200D. It is needed with some other PENTAX models.
5. In debug mode the camera stays fully functional, you will find only two things different from normal mode:
a) The LCD display is always switched on. When you are not actually using it for some function, it still stays on, mostly (but not always) showing the reminder text DEBUG MODE (and draining the batteries).
b) There are three menu points added at the end of the settings menu, one of them is AF adjustment.
Remarks:
- Mind that the adjustment settings are cumulative. The scale runs from -120 to +120 micrometer. If this is not enough, do it once and confirm, and a second time. As shown on the display, the values will be added. To return from an adjustment greater +/-120 back to zero, do it in more than one step.
- A hint from my experience: if you changed the viewfinder screen, you usually have to adjust AF as well as the shimming of the screen itself. With my K200D (not sure whether that's always true), the needed AF adjustment value was exactly the same as the needed difference in shim thickness compared with the one built in from factory!
