The annual Midland Cruise 'N Car Show and another event — the Midland Balloon Festival — are both the weekend of Sept. 16-17. (The balloon festival starts a bit earlier in the week and has a website at
Midland Balloon Festival)
The revised route has been announced for the Saturday (Sept.16) car cruise parade which kicks off the 28th annual Midland Cruise ‘n Car Show.
Downtown streetscape work caused the change from past years’ route.
The revised cruise route is:
Leave the Farmers Market area at 5 p.m., go north on McDonald Street, turn left (west) onto Larkin, turn left (south) onto Hubbard, turn right (west) onto Main Street, turn right (northeast) onto Saginaw Road, turn right (south) onto Ashman and return to the Farmers Market area.
Cars likely will start forming up near the Farmers Market at 3 p.m. for the cruise.
Drivers will get cruise route maps near the Farmers Market.
Spectators bring chairs or stand to watch the passing hot rods, street machines, customs and antique vehicles. In past years approximately 200 cruisers and show vehicles have participated.
There’s no charge to be in the cruise, to watch it or to attend the Cruisers Ball dance at the Farmers Market area. The Cruisers Ball will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with oldies music by the Doo-Wop DJ’s.
Two “best cruiser” awards sponsored by the Great Lakes Loons will be presented at the Cruisers Ball.
In other changes from past years:
• The Cruise ‘n Car Show will be a Saturday and Sunday event instead of the traditional Friday and Saturday event.
• The car cruise parade and Cruisers Ball dance will start earlier than in the past.
• After the cruise, car and truck lovers will view the parked vehicles near the Farmers Market instead of on Main Street.
Near the Farmers Market the next day — Sunday, Sept. 17 — will be the judged car show and more oldies music, Hula Hooping, dance routines and trivia contests by the Doo-Wop DJ’s.
Show cars owners pay $10 to pre-register a vehicle any day before the Sunday of the car show or $15 to register at the gate that Sunday.
