I've stared at the original picture - I cannot quite make it out, but I believe it is "BNSF" too;
in the early BNSF days, they seemed to have a hard time landing on a paint scheme - eventually they settled on the Orange and Dark Green of their 'ancestor' Great Northern,
but some of the early high-power high-speed units used the paint originally used by the "warbonnet" scheme of passenger units of their immediate Santa Fe ancestor.
I believe this was one of those units - produced in the 1990's before Federal rules changed and certain "high polluting" designs could no longer be produced,
but you are correct, it is an interesting appearing combination {and the reason I photographed it}.
