Does anyone know any good place for service/repair in the eastern suburbs?

There is only one place I would take Pentax gear and that is to C.R.Kennedy in Port Melbourne (under the west gate). They are the authorised repairer.

you might have some luck at kirk's cameras in Ringwood on the Mahroondah HWY. I know they do repairs on a few brands, and they promote pentax quite well. Give them a call and they should be able to tell you.

Kirks will send the equipment to either CRK or a little Japanese man (Yoshi is his name I believe) who lives in Mooroolbark. I'm sure if you asked them they would give you his details. I believe they carry his cards on the counter - at least they used to. Paul and his crew in Ringwood have no in house repair expertise.

CRK will more than likely send the item to Japan if the repair is serious.

The other alternative that I'm aware of is Shutterbox almost under the railway overpass in Toorak Rd Camberwell

This is true. It was a salesman at Kirks named Hans who headed me down the Pentax road a few years ago. He was a Pentax shooter too (but has subsequently jumped ship to C) and sold me a K200 as my first 'real' digital camera.If it wasn't for him I'd probably be shooting a D7000 or D700 now with honking big zoom lenses. Hans has retired up North somewhere now and the focus is less on Pentax and more the traditional C&N.

4 years, 50+ K mounts and 4 bodies later, - he is to blame for my LBA!!! LOL

Firstly, welcome to the forum and Melb!
Ted's camera send the repairs to a shop called camera doctor or something like that in collingwood. They do the under warrenty work (and are licensed to so, as far as I know). You can go directly to them without going through a camera shop if you don't have warrenty cover for the work. They do the repairs in house, but I don't know how good they are. I had my K7 there because I wasn't sure what the clunk clunk noise was that I heard when I tillted the camera. They diagnosed it correctly (although I first didn't believe them) that it was normal, but they cleaned the whole body and lens for free while at it. So bottom line, service was good but I can't comment on quality of repairs.

You can try Croydon Camerahouse, they have an in-house technician that is meant to be very knowledgable and does all the cleaning and what-not but I'm unsure if they do service or send it away.

My K10D + 16-45mm kit had to be serviced twice. Luckily, I purchased an extended warranty from JBHiFi many years ago.. they sent if off to http://www.cameraclinic.com.au/, located at Collingwood.

The service was okay, the camera came back really CLEAN.. but I was without my dslr for the 4 weeks (first repair -AF module was busted and the dSLR was randomly turning off) , and two weeks for the next repair (16-45's aperture was stuck at f4).

Thank you but I need to know just in case, my lenses and K7 were mailed and K5 with few of my favorite lenses I was carrying with me on the plane. K7 and the rest of the glass were in pelican case, the reason i was looking for service i may need some in the future(hope not!) I google some places from States but why can now better if not people why use them before...and needles to say-"Pentax rule!!" both of mine were submerge in salt water, fall in sand and so on but work as good as the day i purchase them.

Looking forward to see some Pentaxiens of Melbourne, want to exchange "recipes" and do some shooting.

I have an old Nikon LS2000 film scanner and Camera Clinic repaired that for me, although, because of it's age and the fact that parts are no longer available, they didn't give a warranty. Having said that, it's been going stong for a year or so and I found their service and pricing to be pretty good. They are certainly an authorised Nikon repairer, but I'm not sure about Pentax.

I donated a 35mm(all of them...) to college in Brooklyn and medium format sold through craigslist, sorry to part but gets too much to carry with me, and so my days with the film is over A good news-i kept the lenses!

i have ME-Super and ME-F cameras, for those occassions when i get bored with digital, and i shoot a bit of film (my apologies to those out there who have never used film)
recently, i acquired a Pentax Digital Data Back
fitted new batteries, and tested it
but no date imprinting, on either camera

anyone got any clues ????
