Cameras:
k200d- just getting the hang of it and would love a tutorial. It is broken and if i repair it i will want to take as many photos during the warranty as possible so PLEASE let me know if you want to go shooting
k1000- used it a lot in the film days
Locations:
I live in Fort Collins but am all over the state doing research in the summer. I recreate at hang gliding and climbing sites near Boulder, Fort Collins and Laramie in the summer. I like to back country snowboard at Cameron pass and in RMNP. I am eager to hit new places. I spend a lot of time in RMNP but never on weekends in the summer. My research sites this spring will include Leadville and Clear Creek Canyon so I will have some free time at these spots. I love Vedauwoo (that is a great place for photos). I hang glide at Williams peak near Dillon and bull mountain west of Laramie. I have a few favorite photogenic backpacking places but I need to see more so I am up for suggestions.
Photo interests:
I just like having good landscape photos of trips i have taken. I like documenting conditions at mine sites that I work at (I do restoration work at abandoned mines). I enjoy having good photos of people recreating but I think this is secondary to nature photos. I love taking pictures of wildlife including the NON charismatic macro-fauna types (like insects).
Skills and Mentoring:
I think I am just a novice at this camera stuff. I have the basics and used to use a manual camera in college. But since i do not interact with any photographers I have no clue where i stand. I am eager to talk shop with anyone. And if you are a REAL beginner I am happy to show you what little i know.
I like missions, some times it is the only way i take time to recreate, so if anyone needs the technical support to be lowered off a cliff or something this IS one service that i likely CAN provide.
Photography Goals:
-I would REALLY APPRECIATE going along on any photo trip where people can give me advice on how to take good photos or how to use the setting on my camera.
-I would like to learn to do astro-photography (not with a scope just to get the spinning star effect)
-I would like to figure out all the features on my camera
-I might like to follow someone around when doing indoor photographs because 100% of those look BAD especialy in high school gyms or in florescent lighting.
-I would like to have a second hand when i install a micro prism on my camera.
-I would like to go skiing/boarding with the sole purpose of taking photos of each other.
-I am always game to camp out and wake up early to get good landscape photos.
-I am kind of game to stalk wildlife but I have a hard time waiting quietly and I do not have a big enough lens for that.
-That post photo digtal processing stuff is overwhelming. I would happily drive a few hours to watch someone do it. I use gimp and UFRaw because it is free. I do not have photoshop but might invest in it if I knew what it did.
-It is unlikely to work but I would love to use laser sensors to take photos of bats in riparian areas
-It is unlikely to work but I would love to make an underwater macro lens to take GOOD photos of aquatic insects
Recreation:
hang gliding, rock climbing, backcountry snowboarding (split board), hard boot/carving style snowboarding if at a resort, stream ecology (but i don't fish, I just look at insects), back packing, fixing and riding Vespas, wood working (used to build guitars and folk instruments), playing guitar, metal work, inline speed skating (just starting at this). Of course single or multiday hikes are a great platform for photography and I enjoy them when i go. I love technical canyoneering (the kind where you need roles and wetsuits and get all muddy) in Utah but I have yet to not take a SLR in those sandy canyons. My true love is sailing but that never happens in Colorado. Always game for day and multiday hikes but that seams to always be put off without a mission. Disclaimer: I was fast and strong when young. But i hurt my knees 2 summers ago and I can not do what i used to, more reason to take breaks and pretend I am taking pictures.
