Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum & found this group. Hope to make some friends & learn a lot. I've got a 50mm M lens & hope to pick up some more manual lenses in the future.

Welcome, using manual lenses requires a little patience, but it won't be long before it's second nature. I look forward to seeing the results.

Hello! I simply adore my Sears film-era lenses (by the way, there is also a Sears lens club here on the forum). I have the auto Sears MC 50mm f/1.7 and the auto Sears MC 28mm f/2.8. Both are sharp as tacks; I favor the 50mm and use it all the time for product photography.
I also own an auto Sears 135mm f/2.8 which was my only long-ish lens for a long time. I have not picked it up for awhile, but maybe it is time to go get some creative shots again with it. As I remember, it took a little work to get a clear shot that was not too full of glow (Sears has a famous glow which can be used to creative advantage), but the results were well worth the trouble. Have fun with that 50mm M lens!

Thanks for the word, I'll definitely try to check out some of the lenses you've mentioned. By the way, when you say that they're auto do you mean they don't have aperture rings?

On the contrary, they DO have aperture rings. That is what makes them so nice. The word auto on older lenses used to mean many things, but I use these lenses by adjusting the aperture ring, the ISO on my camera, and the shutter speed, and along with manual focusing, is manual shooting. My lenses do not have an "A" setting on them. Have a look at the following thread because I cannot fully explain it:

That is very interesting. Thanks for posting a link to that thread, I'm checking it out at the moment & I see what you mean about Auto having different meanings on the older lenses. I'm excited to learn about all this stuff, thanks again!
