Probably the best way to buy one anymore. Prices have skyrocketed since this and similar threads have shown the strengths of that lens.

(...played with a Zenit 12 a few days ago. It had all of the finesse of a Zorki 4 and none of the charm...)

that's why I found it charming. It felt like something Zangief himself would have used as either, a solution to silence a barking dog, or a weight to press his flowers together

Zenitar 16K.
Used ND filter and it kind of messed with colors... Lesson learned, ND filters are not that good especially above f4.

Industar 50 M39 with UV filter and hood, and Pentax K7

Hi,

I've been having trouble finding information about filter ring diameter for industar 50. Finally, figured it out and thought I would share it (with illustrations).
Filter ring diameter is 33mm.
There are vintage filters of this size available on ebay for about $22-$25 + shipping from Eastern Europe or UK

I got a step-up ring 33 to 37mm ($4), UV filter 37mm dia. ($5) and lens hood 37mm with cap ($5), all new, made by Sonia (India)

The result, mounted on K7 with M39-M42 and M42-PK, looks like a distilling apparatus but it takes picture, focuses to infinity, etc.

Quick sample photo is here. (not color corrected)

I have Zenit 3M which I used to take b&w pictures and I thought the lens was great. I look forward to testing it with dslr.

Hope this info will help somebody else.

M.

Mir 1....... the lens that launched this club. Nice. I do like the way this lens renders colors. These scenes could be in Australia.

Don't tell her, but here be the love of my life shot with the industar 50 :P

f3.5 s180, iso 100 with a flash bounced of the wall camera left :P

Hmmm Im not sure if I like the crop better.. I dislike the pillow on the left, but i like the lines of her body stretching across. I'm really going to have to go practise my photogimp skills. :S Anyway. Industar I love you :P

It's fixed.
This lens can do anything. I've used it for landscapes and close up flower shots...looks as though portraits are well within the ambit....I'm staring to think that only one lens is required for everything...........one lens....50mm ?

have you thought of cropping more elbow on the right, all the way to the wrist, leaving the left uncropped? The line / shape in black is very nice.

If I woke up tomorrow and all I had was a 50mm I'd still be a happy man.

But really, there aren't too many bad 50's left. If we are honest. . We all get carried away with kit, but honestly. Any fast 50 will do, if I'm being honest.
