I not a big fan of TCs either. It's probably because I have a crappy one.
I can't help but think getting close is a better option if conditions allow.

I had two separate auctions come in at the same time on the same day - a Pentax-A 200mm f/4 and another bag witha bunch of old lenses I had no interest in with a camera I had no interest in with the 50mm f/1.4 I *did* have an interest in. One of the bit I had no interest in was an old Albinar 2X converter. On a whim I stuck it on the 200mm.
Considering I was shooting this across traffic heat (hence the crazy warping going on in the distant detailing) on a gloomy wet utterly gray day I think the setup has potential as long as I don't expect too much.
I ran the shot through my usual levels/vibrance/etc light post processing and threw in some Topaz DeNoise I'm using the trial on for good measure.
This isn't bad considering what it was, and could become one of my go-to's come better weather when I'm able to stake out space along the riverside.
Theres a bit of PF, but no more than the lens kicks out on its own naturally and it was easy enough to nuke in post.
I also accidentally uploaded this from Lightroom, so I'm tossing it in as well. Its not a great shot but again - gray, gloomy, utterly craptastic day for taking shots like this so take it as you will.
