It's not the same optics - the newer OS version incorporates the FLD elements (groups may also be different, can't check on mobile to verify).

I think these two lenses would be the same except for OS. This new lens was released in Dec. 2011 for Sony and Pentax mounts due to OS availability in these two systems. That is what I know. If you find something else, please share with me. Thanks.

Sigma no longer manufactures OS lens for Pentax and Sony mounts since Dec. 2011 so maybe it is hard to find one new. What I heard is that OS lens made a sound like something broken inside due to its OS elements. Moreover, it would drain battery more quickly too. However, it would be very helpful if you use OS lens for video because your OS of camera is turned off when using video.
I have owned this non-OS lens for a week, so I haven't taken many photos yet. But I am very happy with this lens and its results so far. Great buy.
Note: 47st.photo on ebay has lowest price for most Sigma lenses, I bought this lens from them for $619. But be careful if you wish to buy from 47st.photo. For whatever reason such as you change you mind or defective lens, you want to return a lens, they would charge you 15% restocking fee despite their 14 days return policy indicated in the listing. In this case, you have to work with ebay staff to get your full refund back.

I am quite happy with this lens espcially at 17mm. I slightly prefer my Pentax 50mm f1.8 over this Sigma at 50mm.

Also my walk-around lense. Not very expensive, nice IQ. Maybe a tad heavy, but I don't know how that compares to the Pentax 16-50.
