Pentax-FA 20-35mm F4 AL Samples

Post a review | Specifications | Buy

I love this lens. Mine is really sharp even wide open, with vibrant colors and great contrast. Plus it is compact, light and has quick AF. A few recent samples:

Surprised to find little contributions to this thread, as this really is a very fine lens, particularly on APS-C cameras, where it is sharp and contrasty edge-to-edge throughout its range.

A few samples from Glacier NP:

Since I bought the Irix15mm, and having the 24-70mm I wanted to sell my copy of the 20-35mm....but I simply cant resignate myself to do it.
This lens is small and lightweight, has great IQ and my copy is really good so I cant sell it for now.

In fact I might use it in the following days !

I passed on this lens a few years ago, and have since decided to wait for a 20mm in KAF4 mount. But, I wish I'd picked it up to use until the new version comes out 10 years from now or whenever the will be. Since the K-1 was released used prices have gone through the roof.

The problem for me with images like this is it completely rekindles the "I should buy this lens, no I shouldn't" debate, which I thought I'd buried and left behind. And if I do ever decide to buy it, it's going to cost me a couple hundred U.S. because I didn't buy it when I shoulda.

I blame NorthCoastGreg for buying this lens

I've had one I bought almost at the same time than my K1, copy was nice and I really liked it BUT I decided to sell it to fund another lens....big mistake!
4 months later I was looking for another copy but prices had gone up by 25%
I purchased one bad copy, resent it to seller and then I bought the one Im using now, which is great. As I said earlier, the small size, light package + some 58mm filters make it an incredible lens.

Blame all you want. I actually haven't used the lens much since acquiring the DA 16-85 — until the last few weeks, went I took it with me on a trip through the Northwest. Here's another shot of Diablo Lake:

Yep, but I think it's of interest to K-1 owners, Greg, because their WR DC walkaround lens begins at 28mm.

This is small and for some, avoids the need for the 15-30mm f2.8.

True enough, but since I've never convinced that the 20-35 was good enough for the K-1 (which is partly why I bought a KP instead), what I've done with the 20-35 on APS-C can't really be of much use for those who want to use the lens on FF.
