Holga Plastic Lens

I thing just for the record the HOLGA plastic lens should not be missing here.
The lens is all plastic has a constant 1:8 and f=60mm which equates to f 90mm on the K-5. Exposure can only be controlled with ISO or speed.

I usually like toy lenses yet I fail to see the appeal here... do you have other samples which would emphasize more the unique (?) offering of this lens?

I agree with you. Before buying this lens I expected some special effect unique to this lens. I think the earlier models had more varying image imperfections. This one, as I now realise, is the latest model and I think they have tried to improve IQ at the detriment of the unique imperfections this lens used to have.

Nevertheless this lens still produces a certain rendering which when you have a closer look distinctly is "plastic lens". As such I thought these pictures I posted would still make a good reference if someone wants to purchase one, alas it may not be what I and you have hoped for. I enclose one more picture which may tell you a bit more. Here I have attempted to focus on the roof in the foreground (selective focusing is not easy with this lens) in an attempt to get a bit of out of focus on the roof behind. Of course the f8 is not doing this very well.

Is that a 135 format Holga? My 120N has f8 and f11 at 1/100.

This one.

Only one aperture value at f8 and rudimentary focusing.

The plasticky feel is more obvious in this picture. It looks like you are as disappointed as me.

Disclaimer: This is not my photo, and it was taken on a Canon 5D not a Pentax.

However, I have posted it to illustrate the difference discussed above. This was shot straight into the sun, which has brought out the imperfections, but the lens clearly has a lot more character. Also, I think the crop sensor takes out some of the vignetting where a lot of the effect is too.

I think the reason this lens looks so "normal" on a K-5 is that the K-5's APS-C sensor is a LOT smaller than the intended 6x6 film frame, so you are shooting only the center of the lens; the sharpest part. All the typical holga weirdness is out near the edges.

Except that even a so-called "Full Frame" sensor is a big crop on 6x6cm medium format.

If you want holga results, you need the whole camera, including its big film gate. Its only 30 bucks.
