Picture 13 of 31 from Album Single in July
7/19/11 - Just another backyard flower. Although this is a little soft, I still like it. The kit lens seems to be very good for close shots like this. - IGP3430

    Beautiful flowers nicely done.
I have read quite a while ago that the kit lens is the best of kit lenses by an iota. Well they have to make a lens that satisfies the average customer or else.

While by no means am I trying to do a definitive review of the kit lens, I am getting more experience with it in a general sense. Clearly, for a lot of subjects it does better than ok. After using my DA*16-50 f2.8 lens for several years, the kit lens is clearly inferior as, well, it should be. I don't like the kit's performance for broad landscapes and distant objects. It does well for close-ups and subjects in near to medium distance. I hate the lack of constant aperture though as I've come to greatly prefer those that are.

But hey, it's a kit lens. It's a keeper but it's not one I'll continue to use all the time. But if I want to go light, with a WR body and lens, it's a very usable system for me.

The kit lens does colours really well, it just doesn't have the resolution of the 16-45 or 16-50 lenses.
    Nice shot, faithful colours.

It does have beautiful colors and good contrast. I agree it works very well closeup. Some shots close up, with a little sharpening looked great until uploaded here.
I like to bump up the iso and use f8-f11 for flowers.

I never used mine very much so it is interesting to see your and Bruce's pictures this month. I agree about the colors.

Aah, you've got a trumpet vine too! Some lovely bokeh.

Earthy in the colouring, quite like it!

    Cheers Paddy
