Hi Terry
Well, maybe your swifts have different behaviour to ours. It is certainly swallows that we see at the end of September, lined up on telegraph wires, chattering about the journey ahead. The swifts leave earlier I think and they possibly join up at altitude before heading off. Apparently they sleep on the wing at about 3,000 feet!
I saw your goldeneye shot, it's beautiful. My only goldeneye is a distant spot bobbing about on the sea. I love all of our seasons but the real treats of winter are the visitors we get, especially by the coast.
I wrote to you with some stuff about UK birds of prey, how they are impacted by the game-bird industry, illegal trapping and poisoning. It turned into a bit of a rant and I topped the PF message limit of 1,000 characters. Probably just as well really. Anyway, keeping it light, I will put up a shot of a willow warbler I took last spring. It isn't very high res but I think it looks sweet.
Regards
Steve
