All as I am asking is for the repair to be undertaken on my K-50 free of labour charge and I am happy to pay for the replacement part. I do know that the replacement part is inexpensive. Also a 2 year warranty on the new part. This is not much to ask.

If you truly were; “to put ourselves in the other persons place”, as per the Ricoh Management Mission Statement, you would truly feel how users of the K-30 and K-50 feel: let down, dissatisfied, angry, cast aside, unfairly treated.

I hope for your understanding and a beneficial outcome.
    Yours sincerely

Personally if I hadn’t purchased the WR 55-300 mm lens, when I visited Japan in 2015, I would throw my camera away and purchase a Nikon or Canon.

Part of me wants to be angry and say things that I may regret. But I do think that how K-30 and K-50 users have been treated is both shameful and rude. I understand that if the problem is acknowledged that this would be a tremendous “loss of face” for Ricoh. I am aware of Asian culture having lived in Hong Kong for nearly 9 years. I did think that Ricoh would be beyond that. It is interesting that Samsung, the highly regarded South Korean company, did acknowledge the problem with the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and took immediate action. Maybe South Korean business practises are better suited to customer relations than Japanese.

I am not asking for a new camera. But Ricoh need to understand there is a problem with the K-30 and K-50 and should undertake to repair those cameras out of warranty at least with no charge on labour. I would be happy to come to an agreement with the Ricoh dealer in Hong Kong; Jebsen on a repair.
I understand the new K-70 has a new aperture solenoid that is Japanese made so at this early stage, the K-70 may not have the issue facing the K-30 and K-50.

It does seem that Ricoh is turning a blind eye to this issue, the hope being that those users whose camera is out of warranty, will pay for repair, or that some users will give up on taking the matter further with Ricoh and set the camera aside and purchase another.

I personally would like my camera repaired. I did contact Jebsen’s in Hong Kong and was advised to take the camera to their store and pay for repair. This was not good enough. I then contacted the Consumer Council of Hong Kong who proceded to contact Jebsen’s. The reply from Jebsen was that “there was no quality problem with the goods”. Of course this is rubbish as so many cameras have the same problem. They did offer to replace parts for HK$900.00. How do they know what parts to replace and the cost? This tells me they know what the problem is due to other cameras suffering the same fate as my K-50.

The camera was purchased new in June 2014. This was an excellent camera until it developed what is known commonly as “aperture block failure”. I say “commonly”, as this fault is common among K-30 and K-50 cameras. The camera takes under exposed photos, no matter what the aperture setting. I have researched and read Pentax forums and there are many users in my position; having a useless camera which is now out of warranty. There are people that have had their camera repaired but others that now have a camera that does not work and that will not be repaired due to the high cost.

    Dear Mr Yamashita,

    How are you today sir?

I am the owner of a Pentax K-50 camera. Purchased in Hong Kong from an authorised dealer. I contacted Jebsen Consumer prior to my purchase to verify the dealer and was advised that the place of purchase was indeed an authorised dealer for Pentax.
