Picture 19 of 31 from Album Single in August
War memorial - I have wanted to photograph this memorial, part of the refurbish of the city's Memorial Drive, since they first put it up earlier this year. Today I happened to be in the neighbourhood but it was midday with very harsh sunlight. I will have to go back another time. However the conversion to B&W helps with the harshness and allowed me to bring out detail in the stone and inscription.

Nice capture, I think the light did bring some benefit... the shadow has some interesting geometrics to it. Looks like a beautiful monument.

Thank you! I googled the inscription and found the poet and the full poem. WWI poetry was what I liked best in Literature class at school but of course we only studied English poets. Now I know a Canadian poet as well.

I think you got what you wanted out of this and I agree, it's very effective. Excellent shot.

@patjp. I should have referenced the poem, "In Flanders Field". Every Canadian schoolchild has learned to recite that for Remembrance Day presentations.

Marvelous shot mate! There must be a heap of names inscribed there.

    Cheers Paddy
