OK it's clearly the software that determines what exif data is preserved. No paint.net for Mac but I downloaded gimp. Many similarities with PS, just that functions are in different places. Very slow too on my MacBook Pro, but I'll try it out some more. Thanks.

I'm finding the K5 a bit challenging with the extra e-dial at the front. With the Kr it was so easy to adjust things, but now I keep forgetting that I must use the front dial to change the shutter speed. That dial is also a bit too close to the on-off lever for my pudgy fingers. K5 is much, much quieter and I like the front-rear IR sensors. There's other stuff too that I haven't even explored yet. My intention though is to have the Kr body "permanently" fitted with the M42 adapter ring and use it in conjunction with the lenses I had on my old Spotmatic, and reserve the K5 for my K mount lenses. Oh, and I've just started to revisit macro after many years; I find it infuriating that I can control aperture manually using the old lenses with extension tubes, but cannot do the same thing with K mount tubes - perhaps I can, but I haven't found out how on the forum yet.
Thanks for the PS alternatives; I'll check them out.

Well, it seems that Photoshop is the culprit in terms of stripping some of the exif data. Since we last exchanged, I've been posting images from a K5. A few minor differences with the Kr are noted, but the lens ID stuff still doesn't make it. I might try to track down a discounted full version of PS rather than PSE. On the other hand, what else could I do with the $$ ? A new lens might be better value Rod

Many thanks. I found the reference in understanding this issue.

Y'know what, Rod? I looked this up and found out this is a known issue within PSE. Using Photoshop or Paint.net on my side keeps the info for lens and other information direct from raw or jpg. Adobe Forums: PSE8 deletes EXIF data? for a link saying "I guess it does delete it. No explanation given." I wish I had a better answer for ya!

Hi there. Many thanks for your suggestion about preserving lens ID in exif data. I use Photoshop Elements 6 on a MacBook Pro. I just checked the Preferences, and went through all the File Info menu but I couldn't find anything that would help. I was thinking it might relate to the camera firmware - mine is a Kr whereas the two I was comparing with were taken with a Kx and a K5. Rod
