Picture 21 of 28 from Album Single in March
I'm not sure if this works or not. I wanted to try something different besides the endless snowscapes. This is a large icicle hanging off my roof. This is wide open at f/2 and as close as this lens will focus. I've been playing it safe so far with most of my shots at f/16. It blurred out the background pretty good. It's a beautiful sunny day. There's a little purple in the ice. I'm not sure if it's CA or a prism effect of light hitting the ice. My focus looks pretty good but it's the same old eyes (with trifocals) looking at the computer screen that focused the camera.

It definitely works for me. Very fine reflections in the ice - associations to warm, sunny late winter days:-)

Great colors and blurred background. Yes, I do believe the front of the icicle is in focus, but since it's clear, some of the OOF parts can confuse the issue. As for the purple, there appears to be some in the bokeh, though it's probably really brownish from tree branches, but can appear that way when oof.

Nice and sharp. Did you do any PP to this? Colors look a bit too saturated to my eye.

Definitely picking up colors from the background. I don't think there's any CA in that shot. If you're using ACR to process (don't know what you're using), I would bring up the blacks some.

I did a little PP but no color adjustment. It was slightly underexposed and I used the default +25 Lighten Shadows preset in Elements and +9 midtone contrast along with some sharpening. It was incredibly bright out. That March sun at noon on fresh snow can make your eyes hurt.
The green in the background is the garage across the street and woods behind it, my first shot this month. There is a large lilac bush directly in the line of sight behind the icicle. It's all a bunch of bare branches sticking out of the snow so Jheu is probably right. Other than that purple haze, the bush disappeared in the bokeh.
Thanks for the inputs. I'll fiddle with it some more in PP when I get some time.

I have to agree with all the above.
