    Hi Earl, Well, I stand corrected. Looks like the SMC 55/1.8 lenses can be radioactive. I have never heard of one of them yellowing which is usually the case because of the thorium. I also have a 55/1.8 and its glass is still water clear and if it was going to yellow it should have done it by now.

    In any case, like you, I am not worried about it as the readings are so low.

    Hi Ray, thanks for the comment on my guestbook.

    I recently stumbled upon this link and it shows a SMC Takumar 55 1.8 (exact same as mine) displaying some sort of radioactivity.

    Not that I care about the radioactivity all too much. It's still a good lens.

    No, it is not. None of the 55mm lenses are.
