Learning is a good chunk of the enjoyment, I find. To develop, one must try - which almost necessarily involves a helping of mistakes. I've long had the attitude when playing guitar that if I don't make at least a few mistakes I'm not pushing myself enough, so I've been pretty much able to translate that to the various aspects of photography.

Also ... So this is what happened to the message I typed to you. Didn't show up in my sent PMs - because it was a "guestbook post" or something, not a PM.

Same here! When I found out that the cross-processing filter for JPEGs didn't transfer to RAW files I did some research (sparked by posing the query to PentaxForums, of course) and learned about the sliders. This month has really taught me how to manipulate the sliders more efficiently to get the color tones that I want intentionally, rather just through random clicking. Experience is the best teacher, of course, and I'm not sure I could put into words/text clearly enough what it is I do to get the particular "finish" for an image. I just go in and think something like "I want green tones and warm shadows!" and make adjustments from there. I'm getting better at streamlining the process, but sometimes it is still hit-and-miss for the look I want... It's all good fun!

Hi - yeah, I got that you don't use the jpg preset any more; it was just that your mention of it gave me a place to start from, and led me to reading about adjusting those colour curves.

So far anything good in my results is, I think, dumb luck - but I'm determined to get there. 8)

    Cheers 8)
