Came across your February post regarding CIF while trying to work out how to do it myself. I also could not do it with the Pentax A lens I was trying. Tried again today in a spare user mode and found it was the AF Button being set to AF2 that stopped CIF from working, has to be set to AF1 apparently.
Just in case this was what stopped your set-up from working.
