Ok, that is good, I will do that then. We have our first snowstorm coming this saturday, and I hope to spot some creatures on snow! Thanks

That is the trick, to overexpose! I usually go +.5 to +1.5 depending on how bright it is and how much snow vs. darker objects there are in the frame. The camera wants to average everything out to medium gray but with a white scene you want it white so you have to use exposure compensation.

Very nice! I don't mind hiking, not much of an actual climber. I only on Christmas got my first wider angle lens and a tripod so got into the landscape game. I love it. At this point it is animals and landscape, but I need to practice, especially exposure, etc. I saw you had a lot of snow photos- is there some trick I need to know? When I was taking in bisons on snow, it ended up being black lumps on grey snow, no matter what I did or if I pushed it to the right and the bison fur brown came through, the snow did finally become overexposed. I am planning to enjoy this winter and not sure I know how to shoot snow...

Thanks! I haven't been keeping up on 500px, so for more recent stuff check out my Flickr stream. If you want to see goats you need to climb! We don't see them much below 12,000 Ft. or so. If you aren't a skier or winter mountaineer that may mean you need to seek them in summer when the high peaks aren't as hard to access. The rest of those critters are easier to come by in the valleys and meadows. I'm more of a landscape and adventure guy but I'll shoot wildlife when it presents its self. Good luck with your travels!

    Hi Mattb,
I checked out your 500px, so I started following that! If I go to Colorado this year I might definitely connect, as I have never been there and would not mind a local telling me what to do there. I am very interested in Mountain Goats(the white ones) and Bighorn Sheep, as well as sage grouse, sage brush. Just recently, in Utah, I visited Antelope island, which turned out to be oasis for coyotes, jackrabbits, etc, but had only few hours there in less than ideal light, so planning to go back to Utah at some point this year.
    Enjoy your 2016!
