    [Better Late Than Never Dept.] About your post on the Tokina 28-70/2.8-4.3 : I just got this one recently, and I found the same exposure problems you did. I think the max aperture at 28mm is closer to f3.5. And information on the variable aperture vs. focal length (if any) is not passed to the camera. So at 28mm, the camera thinks the max is f2.8, when it's really f3.5. Also, there is no signal to the camera that the max aperture is decreasing as focal length is increasing.
    I haven't done it yet, but I think the only answer is not to use A on the aperture scale, and just use the lens as you would an M lens, with an individual exposure reading/setting for each aperture setting---until you are used to the thing, anyway.
