POTW #143 December 5-December 19
Posted By: bbluesman, 12-12-2010, 08:39 AM

Welcome to the 143rd edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week!

Thanks to Jeff for hosting last week and for asking me this week.

This edition covers photos taken between December 5-December 19, 2010, or shots from last week you haven't processed until now.

A special welcome to all new members: Join us old hands and post your shots from this week and last week!

Most important note to everyone: Remember, you can post your shots from this week AND last week!

POTW is a great place to show what you're shooting day-to-day with your cameras. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax cameras in their parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas and hopefully learn from one another which is great too!

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week.

Again same rules as before:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Date: Sunday December 5-December 19 2010. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look back at the previous POTW's.

Hi Mark, thanks for taking up hosting duties this week.

I went for a long walk along the snow covered reservoir yesterday and I was intrigued by these pieces of driftwood in what feels like a snowy desert.

Thanks for hosting Mark, a couple from a foggy morning a few days ago. Didn't have gas to go cruise around in the boonies, so I did a walk around town, just a few blocks away. So you get to see a small slice of Americana....in the fog even...

Some taken with my 50mm A Pentax lens, some with the 18-55 kit lens.

Local Farmer's Market, everything foggy in the background.

Antique clock on the corner of a bank, been there at least 50 years. Maybe longer...I neglected to look for a date on the building.

Wind chimes display in a store window with an interesting reflection of the courthouse on the window.

Old Jax beer sign. Never knew this was there till that day walking around, found it on the back of a building next door to the bank with the clock. I converted it to B&W, added sepia, and ran unsharp mask to try and get it to look like a 1940's newspaper shot. Not exactly what I wanted, I guess I'll have to dig out my ancient copy of iPhoto, it will do it, but haven't used it in 10 years...

Nice captures. At first glance #1 reminded me of a dead/frozen animal.

Pete.....love the beer advert. I remember as a lad an uncle of mine used to work for B.O.A.C (that dates me!) and he brought home JAX, Schlitz and Ballantine beers. Do those still exist in the US ?

Thanks for hosting, Mark. I took my car in to the service centre on Saturday to get a rattle fixed. It's only done 294,000km in 21 years, so there shouldn't be any rattles. There aren't now While I was there I took my new K5 for a walk around the area and must have had cars on my mind.

This old Saab was in the office area of the service centre.

This came sweeping round a bend and I had about a second to aim, focus and pan.

A couple of shots of a well-preserved Monaro GTS.

Thanks. That was sort of the effect I had in mind, thinking of those "bleached skulls in the desert" scenes.
