POTW #148 10.01.11 to 24.01.11
Posted By: Bramela, 01-17-2011, 12:11 PM

As nobody put their hand up, and I have gone beyond Sunday, I will continue with next POTW. I know I should have approached next host. But I was so busy with other things etc. etc

I hope that everybody gets involved again. Thanks for all the contributions to the previous POTW. A very successful week resulted.

I will be hosting this week's POTW.
Jan 10th to Jan 24th.

So I welcome everybody to post up in the coming week. Let us all see, and enjoy the shots you have taken LAST week and THIS week.

Again same rules as before:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Date: 3 January to 9 January 2011. Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look back at the previous POTW's.

Thanks for hosting again Bruce. I added to your reputation to thank you (only one point but that's all the power I have).
All I have access to from work is yesterday's SIJ photo, one puffed up dark-eyed junco. We are expecting a veritable heat wave to roll in over the next day or so and should see temperatures jump to the balmy side of 0C, so hopefully I will be able to venture further than my front yard with my camera!

Thanks Joe, much appreciated. I like your shot, it really give graphic display of a harsh winter...

Jeff : Nice subject matter, well taken. I particularly like #1.

And something from me, taken today :

Carved bird, worked on a dead tree branch (spider web and all!). The tree is the Worimi tree at the local Botanic Gardens.
Carved by a traditional Aboriginal of the Worimi Tribe.

I haven't played here for a few POTW's mainly cause the weather isn't working for me...too cold.

Nice shots so far.

Joe, nice bird shot, at least you have birds. Mine seem to have moved on to other places. Haven't seen any birds here since October.

Like the first shot of the lantern Jeff.

And Bruce, thanks for hosting, again.

And nice photos from you too Bruce. I was typing, while you posted. So this is an edit to include your photos as well.

Here's one I took on the 5th, it's just a flower but it has rain on it and I thought it came out pretty well for the pp I did in FastStone.

Thanks for hosting again, Bruce. +Rep points from me, too, as a big thanks. I guess many of us have been pretty busy. Very interesting carvings on those trees.

Joe, those little juncos really are hardy creatures. You've captured her (I THINK she's a she) character and the cold very well.

Jeff, love the signal lantern. Is it still functional?

Mar, beautiful bloom!

A few from a snowshoe hike in the sun and very cold yesterday. First time the sun's come out in weeks...

Exclaim! Cross-posted with the Sigma 10-20mm Club thread.

I don't know for certain as I've never really investigated it but I don't think so. It's one of those things a train nut buys just to have. Wabash RR items like this are quite rare due to some spiteful (I think) actions of a purchasing RR company and when I saw the lantern, I just had to have it.

I'm liking your shadow theme from your snow shoe hike. Well done.

I will be hosting this week's POTW.

Jan 3rd to Jan 17th.

4) Date: 3 January to 9 January 2011.
The thread title is POTW 10.01.11 to 24.01.11.

I have a hard enough time with "metric" dates, but I'm pretty sure a week is 7 days...so here is a recent one regardless of where it fits on the calendar.

I wonder what they do the other six days of the week?

At the River Before the sunny day, I was attracted to the river, but the branches get in the way here.

Sunset a few days ago. I've posted pictures taken from this pier, so here's where a few of them were taken. This pier is where I was standing when I got the shots of all the Egrets and Cormorants in the fog. That morning you couldn't see the stumps in the middle, much less the other bank...visibility was about halfway to the first of the stumps.

It is good to see the contributions coming in this week so well. And some really good shots as well.

Photolady : I too enjoy Macro shots of flowers. I think your shot is really nice. I suggest that is a zygocactus flower. But I may be wrong.

Tamia : Those snow shots all are really top shots. I do enjoy all the snow and I shots so much. Particularly in the middle of summer here. My pick of them all is the Snow Cones shot.

Pete : A very subtle handling of a sunset. I am taken by the silhouette effect. Nicely done.

Keep them coming all, it is good to see what we are all doing with our cameras in our own little parts of the world.

Bruce - Thanks, that's the best shot of the day, I had to get a couple with the pier and got several without it...standing on it in fact. and thanks for hosting again.

JeffJS - I'd ditch the second one and keep the first one, that's a great shot of the lantern, probably my favorite on the whole page...except for my sunset of course

Ditch What? The photo of the top of the lantern, or the photo of The Hound?

Thank you either way..
