POTW 157: 13 March - 27 March 2011

Welcome to the 157th edition of the Pentax Forum's Picture of the Week. Thanks to jmschrei for hosting last week and for passing the torch to me.

This edition covers photos taken between 13 March and 27 March, 2011. That lets you show off any shots you took last week but haven't processed until now. In other words, you can post your shots from this week AND last week.

POTW is a great place to show what you've been shooting day-to-day. It gives us all a chance to see what other members are up to with their Pentax (and Samsung) cameras in the parts of the world in which they live or have visited. We can share ideas, learn from one another, and have a good time.

So show us what you've seen in your little corner of the planet! Looking forward to seeing all of what's out there this week. A special welcome to all new members!

Again same rules as always:

1) No theme, just post your favorite pix.

2) Lets keep it to fewer than 6 images per post just so the thread doesn't get too big each week.

3) Any Pentax camera or Samsung SLR is fine, whether it's film, P&S, or DSLR.

4) Enter anything you shot last week or during this current week until the thread closes.

5) The current host will appoint the new host as an invitation via Private Message (PM). If possible, the new thread will be linked to the previous one and the new thread will start between Noon EDT and 5PM EDT on Sunday. If the thread doesn't start, please contact Peter Zack, Moderator via PM.

Previous hosts: Each one is a hotlink to that POTW thread to look back at the previous POTW's.

Hi Noel, thanks for having a second go at hosting. I visited an inner city park yesterday and spent time capturing the ruins of the city's first hospital built in 1894. The sandstone architecture was typical of early Calgary but, true to form, this site was demolished with these pieces salvaged and incorporated into a park on the original site.

Thank you for hosting again, Noel... That Bee shot is a great catch.

Joe, I can just imagine what a dark and dreary place that must have been. I don't know which is worse though.. The Sandstone or the painted Cinderblock of todays institutions.

Lisa, great to see you back around..

Last nights final moon shot, taken at 1000mm (hand held).. Not my sharpest ever but still pretty fair.

I'll post more later when flickr sorts itself out. Something screwy going on with it, and my browser. Don't know which the problem is though.

JeffJS... 1000mm handheld? Kudos to you on the results!!!

POTW threads are always great. But as I'm usually taking anywhere from a few weeks to a few years to PP my images, I'm never done in time to participate.

Whell, I'm finally current with some. Been 'whoring' this around in a few threads so you may have seen it already .... Here's the latest version of the processed photo:

m8o, Yours is more what I was hoping to get but there was too much haze in front of it to get a clean shot.

Lisa, meant to comment on the appealing bike image when I first saw it... only to say that I prefer this colour version!

Detach these clamps and Euclidean geometry collapses locally.

Thanks for taking on POTW again, Noel -- wonderful catch with that bee photo. Great photos already this week, everyone.

Well, I've gotten a new lens, the much-praised smc Pentax 55-300mm. My main aim is to have it for photographing birds and wildlife, but didn't get much of a chance to test it outside the neighborhood this week. Here are a few shots. I really like this lens. It's a bit heavy for hand-holding in dim light, but it's sharp, and the bokeh, color and IQ are super. Very little PP on these. Crop, slight tweaks to curves.

Fireplug

Winch

Steeple

Pigeon Eye

Pigeon Watch
