Challenge #42: Porto Douro

Welcome to the post-processing challenge.

The shot it's pretty much the typical picture postcard but it won't sell unless some serious work is done.

As usual, feel free to do wathever you like to make the picture better than the original.

Looking forward to see what you can do from this one.

The submission period ends Sunday, 1st of May.

Good Work.

Not everyone shoots in RAW.

Sure, I could do that if you want, but we have been playing with jpegs and that should do the trick (the photo has no clipped data and still some range to play with light, contrast and color). Consider it as an added limitation for you to deal with.

Above all (raw and jpeg alike), we believe that there's no such thing as a bad original, only bad post-processing, right? Give it a try...

Many... like tourists, for instance. Just imagine that you are the prepress guy who needs to turn the jpeg snapshot into a fine-print.
Good luck John.

Mine. Did just enough to the point where it would have been too much.

Here's mine. I liked the general composition and felt the ducks added a nice feel, so instead of cropping above the guy's head (which would have also messed with horizon placement), I cloned it out so I only needed to crop a little off the bottom, top and right side for a little wider view. Then some levels/curves adjustments and shifted the hue a little for an older color look. Hopefully the translator gave to correct conversion for a typical postcard.

EDIT: Translation any better?

I tried to balance out the light a little bit to bring the boats out of the shadows.

It looks like you got lost in translation here. Portugal isn't Spain, for the time being...

It will appeal to our beloved neighbors anyway.

Gracias compay.

Sorry 'bout that little slip. Need to brush up on my world geography. Hopefully the new translation is better.

Postcard-like

I originally crafted a version that was a bit more true to the source photo, but it seemed like it needed a bit more of a postcard look. Hope you enjoy!

My attempt at it, tried for a more 'sunny' take on the scene.

Great start to this round. Good to see the PPC alive and thriving. I hope to enter again, time permitting.
