Post your "If Only" shots

We've all had them: shots that would have been oh so great... if only...

In fact, I think I specialise in them!

Let's have some group therapy... turn on the waterworks... sob quietly in the corner over a few beers... wallow in self-pity...

IF ONLY!!!

Bring on your heart-wrenching OOF, sun-glared, "get out of the way of my shot", failed-flash, almost masterpieces.

My humble contribution:

BTW, he didn't fall over after this.

Dan.

This was at the end of our "Spring Break" vacation after flying from Hawaii to LAX and then on the red-eye to Detroit. I'm sure I was just as beat as them and probably thought this looked "tack sharp" in the viewfinder.

Our High School team playing at Lucas Oil (home of the Colts). Great catch for a touchdown, but the fan in front of me was excited too.

Would have been the best picture of the day (except the ones of my daughter in the marching band).

Oh ack, I never keep 'em but there's always a fresh supply coming in. This one from this evening. If only I'd learn to sneak up on wildlife instead of blundering into it ...

Ah, I know this is supposed to be cathartic, but I can't help myself. The gauntlet has been thrown down. I see I'm facing some spirited competition here.

Klh, try f/32 or f/45 next time so you get a bit more DOF. "B+" for effort.

All thumbs, classic fail - that's what you get when you take flower shots when those creepy crawlies are around. Next time, pre-treat the plant with insect spray before attempting any shots.

Baro-nite, "butt out" of this. I think you've gone to the rear of the competition.

Many of my 'if only's' go unrecorded cos they come down to - "if only I had my camera with me!!!"

Sympathise with the posters so far and will find some of my own to add from when I did have my camera and would have been better off leaving them at home.

Deleted is where the better part of mine end up. Great idea all the same Dan.
If only I'd managed to get that couple scoffing boreks out of the way so I could get a pic of the woman behind them doing a Luna Park imitation.

Actually, xjjohnno, I prefer the foreground subject, rather than the "laughing clown"*** devotee in the background. I really like that guy's stare. I'm getting a dramatic vibe from him. Makes you want to put a empty "thought balloon" above his head and run a contest where you enter in the balloon what you think is going through his head as he stares.

So your shot may have be to be ruled "out of competition" as it shows a little too much class to exhibit alongside the train wrecks on display here.

*** I don't think the term "laughing clown" is used outside Austraila. It's a circus sideshow game where you drop a ping-pong ball into the mouth of a moving clown's head and try to get it to fall into the right slot to win a prize:

SIDESHOWS - LAUGHING CLOWNS - BRISBANE - GOLD COAST SEQ

I was working on a fascinating study of this group of twigs, when some stupid bird flew in and spoiled it.

Yes, those action shots really test AF performance. Perhaps try something less demanding next time.

Oh man! A split second later and you would have had those talons in the shot.
