We're having a little fog this morning.

I had a real busy day Saturday. First up was the 3 hr drive up north to my daughters college where they were having a 24 hr fund raising marathon to raise money for the crew team's training trip to Fla. during spring break. Also going on in the gym was a track and field event and I got off a few shots. The ERG machine shot is with the DA 10-17, the others with the 18-55 kit lens, all wide open at 1600 ISO. The pole vaulter was a couple from a burst shot.

Frank - Wonderful foggy picture! I'm a soft one for trees in contrast (as seen in one of my tattoos). And I love the dripping leaf as well, great capture.

Rense - the last one, with the barbed wire.. it gives me a odd feeling, like a glimpse of happiness where it usually aint found.


I've been away on a small ski-trip with 2 mates of mine over the weekend, so I got a few (not many thou, didnt dare to have my camera in my backpack while flying through the woods and the jumps.) pictures to show:

When the fog is just right where I live, drops of water form at the tips of the leaves. I can never figure out what makes this happen, so don't ask me to explain the physics needed to get those drops on the leaf. Anyway, on that morning the fog was just right and every leaf on that rose bush seemed to have those little drops on each point on each leaf. Other rose bushes in my garden did not have water drops like that. Last fall I got a similar shot from the strawberry plants in my yard, accept the drops seemed to defy gravity because they sat above the leaves.

Frank, it's not the physics per sé that cause this phenomenon, it's the plant that secrete (is this the right English word ?) the water actively. It's seen often in the Rose family, like with your Rose bush, the Strawberry, and also with Lady's Mantle (Alchemilla). Here's a quick link from the internet click.

Thanks for the explanation, Rense, I had been wondering about this as well. So you're saying that the leaves of some species "give off" (secrete) water from their tissues?
