No telescope is compatible with the full functions of any camera. You are limited to manual focus, manual exposure. The latter is possible only if you select a setting in the custom user settings to "enable the use of aperture ring". I don't know if there is such an option in the ISTD.

By the way, Pentax makes a K-mount camera adapter (model PF-CA35) designed to reduce chromatic aberation when mounted on Pentax PF-60ED, PF-80ED and PF-100ED spotting scopes. I use my K10D and K-7 with the PF-CA35 mounted on my PF-80ED scope. This setup allegedly gives a focal length of 800mm and an aperture of f12.
Cheers

The Meade ETX 125mm is a Maksutov-Cassegrain. It does not suffer from chromatic aberrations like a non-(true) APO corrected refractor.

You should be able to due prime photography using a T-adapter through the rear port of the ETX telescope. Just get a Pentax K mount to T-adapter ring as well.

The 1900mm focal length of the telescope is extremely long. Most people use this telescope for planetary since it's f/ratio is 15 and it would probably be way too slow for anything but the brightest of objects (like the moon or planets). Maksutovs are very well corrected telescopes, so you should be able to pull off some really nice moon shots with a k-7.

This is a good website for ETX related resources
