As far as I know, you need to press the af button in live view to focus before this version. Got mine only for 1 week, I might be wrong.....

Holy crap, this is great news! The change to editing movies and live view autofocus changes are significant! It's great to see Pentax still adding features to the K-7. This gives me hope that if they can, they might even give a firmware patch to fix the shutter slap blur we've been hearing about lately. Who knows, it might have snuck into this patch. :P

Bravo Pentax!

Edit: It's odd that the version number jumped from 1.03 to 1.10. I bet there are more behind-the-scenes changes that might improve other areas as well. Perhaps I'm overly optimistic.

Pentax has a history of "sneaking" in firmware unannounced fixes to problems which they don't publicly acknowledge in the first place.....

Kind of weird corporate culture, but I'm happy as long as they keep making corrections and improvements.

Just updated mine and I like the AF in Live View with the shutter button pressed halfway.

When Pentax states "Also improved focus speed" does that mean for (1) using Live View and/or (2) not using Live View? Also, is the improved focus speed for all AF lenses? Have not had a chance to try it outdoors yet.

I just updated the firmware and am happy to report that the focus speed in live view is much faster than before. Also focus with shutter button half press (similar to K-x) is convenient and logical. Overall, it is a very welcome update. Thanks Pentax.

Peter

PS. I think only focus speed in LV is improved.

Yes! The no half shutter AF in live view was very annoying, I even accidentally took some shots without autofocusing because pressing the AF button is out of habit, also the exposure meter + electronic level is a godsend!...I really needed that and even started a thread asking which one was more important because I had to choose between the two. Thank you Pentax!!!! (we need some tweaks to the K7's video though)

Just updated, I hope it's not like computer software where major update numbers are prone to bugs

Updated here too. For anybody who's wondering, the new level display on the LCD is identical to that for the 645D, except with the second axis removed since the K-7 level is single-axis.

Didn't measure scientifically, but tested contrast detect AF speed before and after update, using the 18-55mm WR, and found a fairly significant improvement myself.
