Hi all, I own the K100D and use recharable battries. I dont seem to get any life out of a charge. I don't know what other users get, but it seem they discharge in 30-45 min just using the camera's features for learning...I admit the battries are cheapo Wallmart Brand 2500's and the charger is old, taking up to 12-14 hours to charge 4...thanks

You didn't say what kind of rechargables.

35-45 minutes is rather fast, I can usually run several hours and take several hundred photos on a charge. I use assorted NiMh cells rated 2600-2800 mah.

You mention "learning", do you have the display on all the time? Once you are familiar with the camera you won't use the display as much and the batteries will last longer. Ad, you might try a name brand. One should have at least two sets on hand.

The K100D is sensitive to batteries.

I think I have the same WalMart 2500mAh NiMH batteries - which are Digital Concepts/Sakar brand - I get between 330 - 440 shots while using the built-in flash a lot (may be 60-80%)

So it may be that the batteries are not getting a full charge,
or are faulty (I had to return a set when one of the batteries started to lose charge within a couple of days).

I use the viewfinder when shooting test shots and display when viewing(set to 5 seconds), i think i have sorry battries, even one can ruin the other 3. also the charger is old and made for 1600mAh battries.

no brand names are on the battries, i am thinking of getting Rayovac and a one charger

same goes to me....im using GP batt with 1600, can life bout 30-45 min, then change to 2350, same also......now thinking to change to 2600....

"Sanyo Eneloops" came up during my research as what I would get, Rayovac makes a simular battery, maybe Sanyao makes them for them. I'm using generic Wallmart battries and I now remember when I used them in my point and shoot, they lasted about the same...crap...lol

Eneloops perform well for me on my K110D, i usually get around 500 shots with a fully charged set !!

ENELOOPS and a good quality charger, one that will dis-charge.
Eneloops can be used straight out of the pack, no charging required, BUT, don't expect too much performance initially (still good for a few hundred shots) as they reach their maximum after a few charge cycles.

Money well spent.

I've used Energizer 2500 mAh but have switched over to 3 sets of Duracell 2650 mAh and a Duracell 15 minute charger. I'll likely get a set of Eneloops or Rayovac just to check them out.

With the Duracell's I get about 450 shots, with a wide mix of on-board flash/non flash shots, a 3 second instant review and auto shut-off set to 3 minutes (I take a long time to get a focus indicator with manual focus lenses - lol). With the instant review off and no on-board flash use, I get about 550-600 shots, before I get a low battery warning.

Make sure your batteries are cool before charging, and cool before using them. Extreme heat or cold will knock the life out of any set of batteries.

A good charger is also a must - GWP mentioned a good feature on a charger - make sure it can discharge. I'm not sure if the Duracell has that feature, but it will definitely help out in the long run.

The WalMart 2500mAh NiMH batteries do kind of look "generic"
but not to labor a point - they are actually Digital Concepts/Sakar brand -

The batteries changed appearance about 11 months ago to look similar in style to these below -
the big "Digital" may say "Rechargeable" and the rechargeable script says Batteries (and obviously 2500mAh instead of 2200) -


but the packs remained the same.

The Sanyo eneloops are not the same as the other LSD batteries.

But reports have been good for the RayOVac Hybrids and the Kodak Pre-Charged

You might want to check the manual on your charger. The one that I have shuts off after about 12 hours of charging and says that that is enough time for a 100 mAh battery. So, when charging my 2500's I wait until the charger quits, then unplug and replug the charger to give the batteries a second go. Seems to work for me.

I went to two different fairs recently with my K100d and 2700mAh "powerex" (cheapo) batteries from Newegg.com. They were on a fresh charge and lasted 600 jpegs, plus walking around with the camera on an awful lot.

I found my preview was on 5 seconds, I used it alot. I also used the automatic zoom just testing points of focus vs manual. The battery indicator would say "dead battries or something" when I still could take many more shots by just turning the camera off and back on...as the battery indicator would have no bars...I am going to shut off priveiw and use manual focus more, I bought some Kodak battteries thats being charged I and will see..thanks

I use 3 different options for batteries in my DL

2500mAh NiMH - Energizers and PowerEX from ThomasDistributing - I can get 500-700 shots on a set of these, down side is they are heavy and discharge over time.

Energizer e2 lithiums - awesome batteries - very light, I get ~2000 shots out of them, down side is they can be expensive and I have to throw them away.

Rayovac hybrids - about the same 500-700 shots as the other NiMH, but they hold their charge..

I don't use auto-review, only turning the display on when I want to look at a specific shot.

I went out and bought 2 quads of 2100mAh NiMH Kodak Pre-charged battery's and charged them anyway, the first 4 are still going strong after 200-300 pics, I used auto zoom and flash on a few and they still hold a charge, I tossed the 2 quads of those "Generic looking WallMart Batery's" into the trash, they would not hold a charge for whatever reason, also I got a new slow battery charger-

I would say Kodaks are ok batterys for the price...Jim
