I didn't see this at first but I'm glad some one was able to post it here. this is what we have been waiting for and If it comes down to the wife saying it's either me or the camera. (Well dear it was a great 20 years) I've got to have this camera.

OK, all we are excited about K10 but let's try to put emotions aside and look what Pentax really offered here.

+ unlimited JPEG and 12 RAW buffer;
+ in body antishake;
+ antidust;
+ DNG (however is it compressed?).
+ AF modes, AE modes dials on body.

- WB and ISO setting through menu;
- Sony sensor (minus because all "informed" persons were claiming that it won't be noisy 10MP sensor from Sony)
- proprietary battery capable operating from 0 to +40? Well, I live in country where subzero temperatures in winter is a normal thing what should I do when it is -15 outside? For Lithium AA such temperature is not a problem.

And there are a lot of questions:

(?) 22 bit NuCore processor. Ok, 22 bits sounds nice but what real advantage do we get? Does it give us extended dynamic range?

(?) weather sealed body. Nice, but do we have any wether sealed lenses?

(?) in lense USM support. Also nice but how many USM lenses for Pentax do we have? Yes, coming 16-50/2,8 and 50-135/28 will have USM, but they'll cost in the area of $1000, not really cheap, probably out of many pentaxians' budget. What about DA 18-55/3,5-5,6 USM, DA 16-45/4 USM and DA 50-200/4-5,6 USM? Will Pentax offer us half-price upgrade from non USM versions to USM versions? I'm sure they won't. So, for me USM has no importance at all...

(?) is that nasty bug with Auto ISO fixed?


Anyway, we need to see pictures made with K10D, so far based on specifications it is clearly the best camera for it's price.

Pretty funny, Dave. I have to agree - this hits almost all of my sweet spots.

The only gripe is the lack of mechanical aperture adjustment for pre-A lenses, but I can easily resolve that by selling those lenses. Done!

Unexpected great points to the camera:

• Continuous JPEG shooting
• Price

Expected great points to the camera:

• Two scroll wheels (more professional interface in general)
• 10 MP
• Better/faster buffer and processing
• Pentaprism (I hope)

Roland says that the viewfinder is a PentaPRISM, and that any references to mirrors are incorrect. I guess we'll find out at 4PM today?

It certainly sounds as though it has all the bells and whistles, although I'm not pleased by the proprietary battery. I've done a complete flip-flop on that - the first digital I got had a proprietary battery, and I thought it was great because it really lasts a long time. But when it's dead... you're stuck. I got the DL thinking I could put up with AAs, but I've got to really like them. Seems that rechargeable technology has improved somewhat since I had a Sony Walkman all those years ago and after a few rechargings, I'd get 5 minutes out of my batteries! I'm happy with my NiMHs, and can always carry a set of lithiums for emergencies.

Is it at all likely that the K10 can take AAs as well? I'd really like to be able to have a set as backup, and those proprietaries are expensive!

Of course this is all entirely academic - I can't possibly justify a new camera at the moment. But I'd like to know just in case I have occasion to reward myself...

Well let's See here Acording to the Specs from Pentax Canada there is no mention of AA batteries but they do say It will use rechargable IONlithium (good news here)
the Viewfinder is a PENTAPRISIAM not pentamirror. (Great news Here)can order acc Battery Grip (very nice here) I would say all the other specs that we saw yesterday were the true specs and leaked early (Thanks to Steves Digicam). I am very happy with the new specs and I Want this camera.(soooooooooooooo bad) Now what are your dislikes.
