Maybe Pentax will...

Come out with a D 6x7?
Anyone thought of that angle?

Any thoughts?
Maybe a "budget" D 645 and a full blown in your face D 6x7?

Well, I don't think the 645D market is very big to begin with... don't know how much they'd sell if it was a step up from 645D and more expensive.

I agree with the others, though; probably not gonna happen in our lifetime.

So tiring of numerous FF speculation threads we have the unique opportunity to start here the first (I think) Pentax Large Format Digital speculation thread.

Is there any real word on the release date for the Pentax LFd? Or is this pure rumor? And does anyone know if Pentax plans this to be an actual full frame 6x7 or will it be another disappointing "crop" camera with a smaller 100mm x 116mm sensor?

And who is making the sensor? Does Sony have a sensor that size that is worth using?

If phase one or Hasselblad can have huge sensors costing thousands more, there would be a market for professional studios... Small market, yes, but important to get the name back in the top end.... Like car racing, what wins on Sundays sells on Monday.

The D645 could be the flagship "affordable" medium format for the rest of us... Just like the old days.

Thanks

No, they have enough trouble selling the 645 in a competitive market, don't bet for a new sensor size that would probably require a new line of lenses - you don't want to use old lenses on digital camera. The largest sensor is a 6x4.5 format sensor and will be for quite some time, unluckyly.

What is needed in Pentax land is a 35mm update with a fullframe sensor. That will require several new lenses and keep Pentax R&D busy for quite some time.

Well I don't see it happening, but it would be a great camera. Pentax didn't grow out of 645D at the time, so there is no reason to go one step further at the time.

Maybe a revolution would be to make a line scanner camera that could offer a large picture in a fast time. For landscape and architecture. But not something I see Pentax doing.

.

Unluckily? As the full potential of an 645 sized sensor has yet to be realized, a bigger sensor is hardly needed from an image point of view. Particularly because it will cost a lot more more....
