Why is my K10D bracketing like this?!

I'm not really sure what's going on here. On my older K10D body, Bracketing worked fine. Press the bracket button and set the values, shoot away. So, for example The exposure meter looked like so:
Code:
       _   _   _
<--|---|---|---|---|--->
For some reason, on my newer body, the center exposure, is always a stop too high. The meter now looks like so:

Code:
            _   _   _
<---|---|---|---|---|--->
Anyone know what's going on?

You've got exposure compensation on +ve. Try turning exposure compensation off (i.e. back to normal)

pop, thanks. This is in manual mode, so exposure compensation shouldn't be on at all. unless this is something in the menu settings

It is something in the menu settings.

I had this happen to me on the weekend and I had to go to my trusty K10 Book to find out why.

I am at work right now... if this isn't resolved by time I get home I will look it up and reply then.

I checked this on my K10D and it seems normal. If looks like exposure compensation carries over between modes. So if you had +1 EV in Sv, Tv, Av, ... you'd also see it displayed in M. How this affects the camera settings in manual I don't know. Though like you pointed out it shouldn't, because it's manual. If you want to be safe it looks like you'd need to set to 0 EV in another mode.

The exposure compensation is applied to the meter, not to any specific mode.

Okay... as promised.....

Go to:

Menu
Custom Settings
Auto Bracketing Order

Put 0 in the middle and I think you should be fine.

I hope this helps.

D - I checked your suggestion first, but it was already set to that.

Tybeck had it right. I checked a program mode and the compensation was set to +1. It carries over into bracketing

resolved....yes....to a point.

This is my second K10D body. My first one constantly underexposes images by....a stop. When I got this one I immediately noticed the difference. The meter was exposing properly! I never touched the camera out of manual mode and certainly never adjusted the exposure compensation. So you can imagine my surprise when I turned it to a program mode and saw, in fact, that exposure compensation was dialed to +1.

Turning it back to 0 solved the bracketing issue, but as I'm sure you can guess by now.......the meter was underexposing images by a stop.

So in actuality, there were two people correct here: Tybeck and Albert (Canada_Rockies).

don't believe the manual for the K10D....specifically when it says "EV compensation is not available when the exposure mode is set to ...M(hyper-manual)..." page 161. (can't speak for green mode or whatever else)

Because EV compensation applies to the meter, it does in fact come into play in manual mode....you just can't adjust it unless in a program mode!

I have since learning this, turned EV comp back to +1 and am just letting bracketing do its thing!
