K200D 0r K10D?

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum, so sorry if this has been discussed before, but I did try a search.

I'm going to either buy the K200D or the K10D.
I'm in Japan, and I have found them both from seperate sellers for both around the same price online.

I've read reviews, tried the K200D in the shops, but not the K10D as it's a slightly older model.

I've read good things about both, so it's a pretty hard choice for me.
I've been into photography for a while, but am still learning.
I'd be interested in what users had to say about both on here, and if anyone could recommend one or the other.

Hi,

welcome to the forum.

That's a hard choice. I have the k10 and love it, but the k200 is also a great camera.

k10d:
+ better/brighter viewfinder
+ 2 control wheels
+/- li-ion accu

k200d:
+ smaller (not always an advantage, depends on the size of your hands and lenses)
+/- AA- cells instead of proprietary li-ion accu
+ better high iso

I was/still am in the same boat actually and I thought the K10D was rather large and heavy , then tried a K200D and it felt quite square and brick like and awkward, tried a K10D a few days later again and found it felt better than the K200D heh. And I am a girl with smallish hands. so i'm in a real quandry right now heh

I went for a used k10d instead of k200d to replace my k100ds. Better controls and actually better in hand than the k100ds.

I was ther too, and it was just few weeks ago.
You can see from my sig, which way I went why?:
K200D
- controls much like K100D
- CCD as K10
- better in camera processing
- I'm fond of AA cells as they are easily replacable

K10D
- good size and good ergonomics, though I wouldn't mind grip being tad deeper (I have big palms with long fingers)
- 2 dials (programable usage of them is great)
- bigger, brighter VF
- don't mind not the best in camera processing, as I shoot RAW
- I could get it cheaper then K200 and it was brand new
good luck

Well, many seem to go for the k10

I forgot a minor + for the k200d, the lcd is a bit better.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned, but the K10D doesn't have 'scene' modes like the K200D - I'm referring the Portrait / Sport / Landscape modes you get on the dial. I had never used a dSLR before buying my K10D and didn't find it a problem (that the K10D didn't have them).

If you go to a shop and handle the K20D I think you will get a good idea of what the K10D is like as I believe they use a very similar body (if not exact?).

I am sure you will be delighted with either and welcome to the forum

Yeah, I did try a K20D in the shops and did like the feel of it...possibly more than the K200D.
Was a bit odd not to have the scene modes on the dial at first glance...

Thanks everyone for the comments so far!!
