Yes I had lots of (expensive) lenses from older SLR's, all Pentax mount ;-)

I almost bought a Canon Rebel XSI but decided on the K-x because of...(in no particular order)...

price

in-body Shake Reduction

AA batteries

low-light performance

4+ frames per second

SD memory cards

live view

position of the on/off switch (This may seem unimportant to some but I like the ability to turn the camera on or off quickly with one hand.)

I was not brand loyal prior to my K200D but as you buy lenses, I guess the only question is when to change the body. My original decision was based on a) the buildin image stabilisation which meant lenses would be lighter than their canikon counterparts, and b) the weather sealing.

I'm going to get a K-x for regular stuff but will keep the K200D for those windy dusty drizzly days when you still want to go out and shoot.

Since the 60's

I'm not sure I will ever grow-into the k7, though.

I bought a Pentax because of price, ability to use old lenses, design and AA batteries. Most of all, I like to be different. Besides, I think Pentax is a catchier name than Canon, Nikon, etc.

Because I live in Canada. Apparently, there is a correlation. (I'm kidding of course. )

Sick of bad quality

After 2 horrible experiences, one with a Nikon DSLR and a second with a Canon, I decided to go against the grain and try a k-7. I love the build quality, the outstanding glass, and the weather-resistance! I will forever be a Pentaxian.

Why?

Had a Fuji 5700 bridge but wanted to go forward to a full DSLR. Saw the new (at the time) K100D Super advertised at a bargain price compared to the other brands. Read a little bit on review sites about it and went for it............................Then I found this site and discovered the myriad of other reasons why I had made the right choice. Two years on and no regrets.

I love colour. My first option was Nikon because i love the way they care hte colours. But the cameras were expensive and with a few features. The K10D beat the rest at the moment i chose one. And Pentax fuss over the colour in a way i simply love.

I used to use Minolta film cameras. But when Konica bought them, it seemed like their products just went to crap. I dont know how they are now that Sony has them. I have been using my Maxxum 9000 ever since it came out.

But, I wanted to get a DSLR, so I saw the K20 on a shopping network, and became interested. I did a little research and it was rated very highly by everyone that reviewed it. The main reason I went with it, however, was because of the ability to use all of the Pentax lenses. I thought I would be able to pick up some nice lenses for a few bucks. Unfortunately, everyone else seems to have thought this as well, so the good used lenses are not easy or cheap to come by (try to find an f1.2 lens for under $100. Impossible. Yet easy for old Minolta and other brands). So once again, I arrive at the bar when last call is being announced. But I still like the camera very much.

Why Pentax? - Other reason...

I have had a number of pentax cameras and was very pleased with each one and never had a problem, this also means that I had few lenses that might be used.

But, most of all the feeling of holding the Pentax (compared to others) gave a good grip and feel to the handling of the camera that made me know that this camera will for sure be used for photography as it is so comfortable to hold.

the ability to mount older lenses, and therefor not having to spend a fortune and still being able to own brilliant glass (non of which is encapsulated in a huge plastic zoom)

Pentax offered great price to quality ratio for new and used lenses as well as bodies during the early era of DSLR (2003-2008).
The situation has changed lately. It really puzzles me why somebody would pick Pentax system now, from the clean sheet. I keep my 6mp Pentax camera and a few FA lenses as a travel kit but not investing into Pentax system any further.

Tamron and Sigma lenses are still the same price across all systems. Pentax adds image stabilization to all these lenses. EDIT: ...and the k-x probably gives you the best IQ/$.
