K-X focus screen

I've tried searching the topic but found little.

Can anyone tell me if the focus screen on the K-X is replacable?

Katz-eye doesn't list one for the K-X.

Not surprisingly for a consumer DSLR, the focusing screen is fixed. (It's a Natural-Bright-Matte II screen, incidentally).

So interchanging it with a split-screen focus screen - like I did with my K10D - is out of the question, correct?

Correct, it's not intended to be user-replaceable.

Maybe it's not meant to be, but it's replacable (it's same as with K-m/K200D). I'd wait for Katzeye with focus point markings.

Really? That's interesting... My apologies for misleading folks, then! Certainly, the user manual makes no mention of the screen being interchangeable. I've not yet had the chance to play with the K-x / K-m in person though (nowhere near me sells either model, that I've found).

I don't know exactly about K20D and K-x, but *ist DS, K100D and K10D screens are different.

K100D screen can't be inserted into *ist DS, split screen for K100D is not fixed within *istDS and is misaligned in K10D. I had to cut U-frame from exposured film and put it in K10D mirror box between split screen and prism (leaving original U-frame there also).

Assuming that K-x is constructionally the same as K-m, Katz-eye for K-m should fit it.
And never mix screens between 100% fv pentaprism cameras, non 100% fv pentaprism cameras and pentamirror cameras.

I've changed my K-x original screen to Nikon K-3 screen, cut by focusingscreen.com for a K-m (K2000), for $90 shipped Express, with rule-of-thirds grid. While not as easy a procedure as with K20D or K10D, it's still doable (there are two "manuals" - one on Katzeye site, one on focusingscreen site, the former imo makes the procedure seem easier than it actually is).
Also, if you add rule-of-thirds grids, focus points will lie roughly at the line intersection points - though a bit closer to the center.

pbo. I always wonder. what is the big circle int he middle for?
and you have to remove the matte original to put the focusing screen on right? How come it seems you still have AF brackets there?

That's a reference circle for, if I'm not mistaken, Nikon's center-weighted metering area.
And that's not a shot through my viewfinder - I just merged two pictures, one from focusingscreen.com, one from here to show about where the focus points lie w.r.t. grids, circles, etc.
So , ehm, I forgot to erase those focus brackets

Okay - so there is still a glimmer of hope!

I would really like to upgrade from the K10D but in no way can I afford a K-7.
The K-X seemed like a reasonable alternative.
However, I have a lot of MF lenses (Voigtlander's) that I will not give up.

K100D/K200D/Km/Kx are all listed as not having interchangeable focusing screens, but I've changed them all (mostly for friends). Yes, Kx has exactly the same screen as the Km and K100D/K200D too. Just make sure you put the original spacer (a U shape thin metal piece) on top of the screen before you fix it in. By the way the screen holder was design (the holder is a simple flat base), you probably can use screens for K10D/K20D as well. But K7 has a different screen, the small extrusion tab is on the left, while the screens for other Pentax dSLR (and probably all film SLR) cameras are all on the right.

So if you want to buy a split screen for Kx, just get one for Km/K2000 or use your existing ones for your K100D/K200D/K10D/K20D
