K10d from Best Buy Outlet

I just bought a refurbished K10d from Best buy online. I received the camera today; paid 379.00 + shipping & tax and it appears brand new in the box with all accessories included. They looked to be in their original sealed plastic. I'm flabbergasted. I installed a battery and lens, and card, took a pic land then loaded it in PhotoME and shutter count shows 212. I am 99% sure that this must be new - old stock. For anyone looking for a inexpensive Pentax body, the girl that I spoke with said they had several more in stock.

I am just a hobbyist and I bought a k10d in 2007, but sold it to get the k20. Although I think that the k20 is a better camera, the k10 is still a wonderful DSLR and for me has better handling and build than the new K-x.

Welcome to the forums Curt!
Refurbished are exactly what they are..usually new that where returned for some problems..got refurbished and looked over by Pentax to make sure it got the TLC it needed to function properly.
These refurbished are actually better than new since they get the whole TLC (some sort of tune-up) which new cameras don't get.
Defective parts are replaced with new ones too..so it is actually better.
See refurbished as like buying a new camera, then finding some problems with it (within the warranty period), then sending it back to Pentax for repairs (without paying for anything) then getting it back like spankin' new..although with the refurbished one, you don't have to go to that whole procedure of sending your camera back for repairs!

90 day warranty on the refurbs btw.. So purchase an extended one somehow.

I bought a k100d refurb from best buy.. It looked brand new as well but it had a little more then 10 bad pixels. CRIS has had it since the 2nd of this month. Was told 6 weeks for repair, so maybe I will get it for Christmas.

Not to hijack this thread but how do I see the shutter count? The file system shows 100-001 but that can be reset.

Also, how do you test for/see bad pixels?

BTW: firmware version is 1.0 so I'll be updating it tonght but wanted to get the count first just incase updating made a difference. Which gets me to Hijack #2: do I need to load all the firmware updates or just the latest? (Does each version carry forward the changes from the previous ones?)

the newest firmware will carry all version updates, no need to do it incrementally.

There is a program that can tell you actual shutter actuations, someone else with a better memory can probably tell you its name!

Got one from Bestbuy also. Shutter count around 234. However, the camera was defective. The flash is "overpowered" Turned flash down to -2.0, shutter speed 1/180 and images still come out "white".
Ordered another one from Bestbuy, and also order a K-x. The K-x will end up costing about 75-100 more, but I'll see which one I like better

BTW: My refurbished cam showed 90 shutter releases.

My K20 refurb had either 62 or 82 actuations (I can't recall) when I recieved it.
I could not tell it from new if my life depended on it.

Just received my K200d refurb from Best Buy, and wanted to report that it looks absolutely brand new & works perfectly. This is my second Pentax refurb, the other being a K100d Super, and it was the same story with that one. These are very good deals, IMHO.

nice to hear most of these seem to be new-old stock cameras, making them a very good deal!

I check out what they have listed periodically. Noticed they have the k100d for $269 and the K110d for $279 - someone must've looked at the model numbers and thought this model number is 10 higher, that outghta be worth $10 bucks!
