Pentax LX CLA

Have an opportunity to purchase an LX which appears to be in good condition.
As a matter of course I would get it CLAd. I'm looking for estimates on how much it might cost to have it cleaned, lubed and adjusted.

Tom send it to Eric Home. He is the authority on LX and I have sent him three. The last one a few weeks back - he cleaned the prism from fungus that was starting to take residence and it is now smooth like butter and clear as day. I think that the CLA is around $150.

Cheers,

Luc

Thanks Luc,

Appreciate the response. That's about what I thought. The unit looks pretty good but no doubt would benefit from a CLA job. It's priced about $450 + CLA makes it $600 or so. Not bad for an LX in good condition. I'm reluctant to pull the trigger though as I just don't shoot much film anymore. It would be a shame for it to collect dust next to my MX and K2. Decisions, decisions...

Best to keep it in pristine condition.

Eric CLA'd my LX.

I don't use the camera as much as I should, but I am glad I got the camera done.

It cost me just over 200 bucks, as he also replaced the focusing screen, and fixed the stickey mirror.

It should be noted that Eric's LX service is a full overhaul, not just a standard CLA.
As such it is actually a great bargain.

By comparison a Leica owner might pay $500 for the same level of service from
a Leica specialist, and wait six months to get their camera back to boot...

Good point. Eric's work on my included replacing all the seals--which on the LX are many.
