My first roll through my "new" MZ-5 wasn't great, but had this one shot I like mucho. Any one else use M&M's for potty training bribes?

Shot my first two test rolls with the Spotmatic SPII. I found out the meter underexposes by quite a bit. I will have to see if I can recalibrate it or otherwise find out by how much I have to compensate. Next time I take it out I will bring a manual light meter to check by how much it underexposes.

Thanks! The film is Rollei Retro 100 (Agfa APX 100) developed in Diafine. I should have checked the meter before I went out test shooting, lost a whole bunch of shots due to underexposure.

Ahah this is my favourite B&W ASA 100 film. I bought 40 rolls that are stored in my fridge. Most of the time i take my Pentax Digital Spotmeter with me, but sometime I get lazy and rely on the LX's meter.

My favourite 100 asa film as well, I love the tonality. I also have some Rollei Retro 100 stock in my fridge, 35mm and 120 rollfilm formats. The 120 rollfilm is a bit of a pain to develop and scan though, very curly! It's a pity it is no longer being made, hope one of the remaining film makers will start producing it again but I'm afraid it's gone for good once the current stock runs out. (Agfa Gmbh went bankrupt in 2005 and Rollei bought up the final production run of APX 100 back then).

I'm afraid my knowledge in films and printing boils down to buy the drugstore film and then bringing that film back to that
drugstore for 3½"×5" prints. Scanning those looks worse than just photographing the print with the mighty digicam :-)

I may have a photo magazine review of that Hoya... Ah here it is: Hoya HMC Tele-Auto 135mm f/2.8, ser 61####. Average in size, weight, and appearance, but well above average in performance.

We found our sample smooth in operation and easy to handle. ... Hoya has included two of its most recent optical glasses within the fours air-spaced elements, which provide no disappointment in the image.

Typical pattern of slight overcorrected spherical aberration at f/2.8, showing some zonal aberration. A relatively small red flare was also seen. No prominent axial color was seen etc etc... and the image became excellent at f/5.6 for both on and off axis.

Field test: our color transparancies showed a slight softness when the lens was used at f/2.8. The lateral color could not be observed in the film image, as we expected. At f/4 the center and edge image quality were excellent. Cloise in we noted a slight loss of sharpness in the corners, but this improved as we stopped down to f/8 or smaller apertures, as would be expected.

The resolution chart has Excellents and V.Goods all the way down to f/16 - at f/22 the diffraction takes over... the center settles on 52 lines/mm, though it has a peak at f/11 and 62 lpmm... the edge cruises along at 48lpmm for most of the range

Contrast typically for the tests of this era are low, though get to the Medium range between 5.6 and 11. It is in the mid 50's % at 30 lpmm.

In context? The measured and slide film performance beats the Pentax SMC-M 135/3.5 (May '77)

Finally got my shots with the Hoya 135 f2.8 back today. The review is right on the money. That trip to Southbridge is paying off.

ME Super, Hoya 135 f2.8, Ultramax 800 (Thought I was going to get to do some indoor portraits in available light at school. Opportunity didn't present itself so I went out to Cedar Hill where I almost always find willing subjects <g>).

I'm very happy with the M28 f3.5 and thrilled with the performance of the Hoya 135 (but that focal length is going to take some getting used to). Only lens left to check out is the Tokina 80-200 f4

Nick, what didn't you like about your first roll through the MZ-5? That portrait of your kid is first-rate. Too bad you don't feel the rest of the photos are up to that standard.

Agnostic, turnabout is fair play in the "Lighthouse Admirations Society" - Bravo! I should have mentioned you as well when I was jonesing for medium format in a post directed at Vertex Ninja and Nesster. Sorry your ME Super met an untimely end. Hopefully you will get the new Spotty sorted out in short order.
