The modern equivalent would be one of those focus free 35mm cameras, whether disposable, or something like the Vivitar PN2011 which has a very nice 28mm lens (there's one with a 21mm lens which is even nicer, but I don't have one)...

this is how fuji velvia usually renders afternoons . This is how the slide looks/no pp . Velvia is daylight balanced and it is a high saturation , high contrast film and has low sensitivity to blue color ( thus light blue becomes deeper blue ) .

Ok, trying to make progress with my wonky scanner and figuring out what post looks OK on the Web. How's this?

(Canon F-1N, 28/2.8 New FD, maybe a polarizer. Probably the first time I'd seen the vicinity of f16 in years.

Neopan 400 in D-76. (It's a fair amount of post on a poor scan. )

(And.... It came out bigger than I'd intended at first. I think I shrank it too much on the photobucket site. *facepalm*

Here's a very film-like film-shot. Looks like a old picture from the 30's or something, but it's last year with some over the expiry date Delta 400 that I pushed to 800 (go figure!)

Not sure about this composition...

Now I finally have some to share.

All except for the first one were taken with the FA43. As for the film, the color pics were taken with Fuji Reala 100 and the B&W with Ilford Delta 100.

This one was taken with the DFA100.

While I have't had much experience with B&W film, these sure look grainy for ISO 100 film.

I find that you can get much smoother shots by turning off unsharp masking when scanning (otherwise it really exaggerates grain), and scanning in 48 bit colour. If a lab's doing it, you're SOL with the .jpg's they give you, as they'll likely hit 'AUTO TONE' and boost the levels of underxposed shots, giving you grainy, high contrast scans.

I've shot a few rolls of ISO 125, and it didn't seem too much smoother than ISO 400. The TMAX/Delta films are, though.

Well, since I'll have to be using the lab for scanning until I can get a film scanner of my own, I think I'll hold off on "real" B&W for a while and just convert my color pics to B&W after I get them scanned. THAT is EXACTLY what I thought when I saw that. I was eight when that movie came out. Somehow, I saw it that year. In a drive in. Dad took us. That scene made quite and impression.

The remains of the Statue of Liberty were shot in a secluded cove on the far eastern end of Westward Beach, between Zuma Beach and Point Dume in Malibu. I used to go to that beach on a regular basis when I was living in LA.
