Off Camera HSS flash?

I'm seeing that the only way to get HSS off camera is with a cable. Can someone correct me if I'm wrong and/or point me to a good cable? Shooting a K5 with a metz 50-af1

Well you can, but you will need to have a Pentax AF360 or AF540 flash and mount it on the hotshoe of the K-5 set to "control" or "master"
You can trigger the Metz 50 set as a "slave" in P-TTL HSS mode at any shutter speed.

If you dont want the Pentax flash on the camera to show up in the exposure, set it to "control" mode. The exposure will be from the Metz 50 only.

You can of course effectively do the same thing with the long 5P TTL cables as you mentioned.

I have an AF540 , Metz 50 and a set of 5P cables, have thested this to confirm it works with K-7

So I need a 5P TTL cable and some kind of hotshoe adapter? Do they come as a set? Where to buy?

Genuine Pentax items can be expensive:

You need:

- At the camera: Hot Shoe Adapter F (#31022) or Hot Shoe Adapter FG (#31045).
- Between camera and flash: F5P (#37347) or F5PL (#37349) Extension Cord.
- At the flash: Hot Shoe Adapter F (#31022) or Off Camera Shoe Adapter F (#31046)

The difference between 31022 and 31046 is that the foot of the 31022 has contacts, passing through the contacts on the top of the adapter; the foot of the 31046 has a 1/4" threaded hole, not contacts.

The 31045 does not block the built-in flash.

From left to right in the photo below: 31045, 31022, 31046.

Or you can just get a third-party cord on FleaBay. I've been using one for the last 3 years, no problem yet:

How much does this system cost, SoldBear?

And is GuinePentax the only way to support the feature?

Going street prices:

- Hot Shoe Adapter F (#31022): $30
- Hot Shoe Adapter FG (#31045): $50
- Pentax F5P 3' Extension Cord: $25
- Off Camera Shoe Adapter F (#31046): $60 (not sure why this one is so costly).

At least, you need 2 copies of 31022 and a copy of F5P (30 X 2 + 25). If you have a Pentax 540, you need 1 copy of 31022 and 1 copy of F5P (30 + 25).

I didn't buy any of mine new.

No. You don't have to buy genuine Pentax articles. As mentioned in my post, you can just get a cord from FleaBay for about $20 - $25. I'm still using one bought about 4 years ago. This one is pretty decent: link.
