So, for those of us that took advantage of the crazy, low price Amazon has on the yellow K-01 with the 40 (actually, down to 314 today...), but waited until it was back ordered, I thought I'd check to see... Has it shipped yet?

I jumped on the bandwagon, but I waited about 24 hours too long and Amazon warned me it would be 1-2 months before it shipped. Right now, my shipping window is listed as Jan 16th to Feb 7th. I'm checking my email every day, multiple times a day, specifically to see if something happened and the little brick has shipped ahead of time. In the meantime, I am keeping a close eye on any other deals that drop low enough to grab my attention so I can cancel this order and get one sooner. There is a similar deal for 399 right now, but for the extra 80 bucks, I am content to wait another couple of weeks.

All that said, I'm sure there are a number of us in the same boat with varying days of possible shipping times. Post here if/when you camera ships. If it was an Amazon product (i.e. Kindle), I'd fully expect it to come early, but with a camera like this, I'm halfway expecting it to come late.

It would be interesting to take a look at the manufacturing date as they arrive. With such a long back order time frame, I am guessing that the size of these sales might have taken Pentax by surprise. You can see the date by downloading photome and then dragging a picture into it. It will display all the EXIF metadata fields, which includes the manufactured date.

That is a good idea. I'd be interested too. I know someone said they thought that Pentax might be making these for Amazon... I wouldn't put it past them as someone with the clout of Amazon could convince a company to do that, for sure, but I find it more likely that Amazon just bought up/contracted for as much yellow stock as they could. It takes a lot of time and effort to, unless this was preplanned, to ramp up production like that.

I'm trying not to hold my breath, but I will admit to checking my email a little too frequently...

I'm a prime member with free two day shipping and my date is Jan 17th - Feb 7th so don't feel bad. Your choice of shipping probably isn't the problem. I'm not what one could call patient and this wait is killing me.

I am Prime too. I think the window is all about when the order was placed. I did pay the extra 3.99 for overnight shipping so I would at least get it one day sooner. Almost tempted to spend that extra 80...

That's a pretty sweet deal. I ordered from BH. Normally it takes about 3 business days for the package to arrive, but this time I had to wait a total of 2 weeks, what with the holidays and all. Still have to pick it up from purolator. If I had the choice between BH and this deal from Henry's I would've gone with the latter. Don't really need the 40XS but for that price why not.

9 more days, supposedly, before I get into the shipping window. I'm tempted to just order another one, keep this order open, and then sell it. They seem to be going for about 400 with the 40.

My order says jan 16-feb 7 - I placed my order within an hour of the deal thread being started (same time I posted in the thread) - it was backordered quite fast! I'm a prime member, upgraded to overnight because after that long a wait I won't have any patience so it is worth the $3.99 for overnight.

I should add that I ordered on December 28, which was the same day Docrwm started that Price Watch thread -- but I didn't order until fairly late in the evening, Pacific time.

This is very good news. That sounds like they are for sure acquiring new stock. Amazon doesn't, generally, say things they aren't going to be able to back up.

I'm with Quicksand. I ordered on 12/28 and I'm on the west coast. I ordered 7:50am PST using Prime. My order is still saying Delivery Estimate: Thursday January 17, 2013 - Thursday February 7.
