Ready to make the jump up to a DSLR. I like the focus peaking of the k30 but the k5 seems more like it could meet my needs for several years. It would be my only camera body. Used, they are roughly the same price. Any advice?

If you don't care much about video and don't mind the slightly worse performance during live view, then the K-5 would be a good upgrade. If you got one, you could also keep the K-01 in case you did want to shoot some videos or wanted focus peaking, considering the fact that you probably wouldn't get much more than $200 for it.

I never video. It is for stills photography. No sports or things like that.
Even though I have newer lens, I actually do a lot of manual focus. Is that still possible with a k5, as easily and as accurate as k-01

I'm not very happy with the grip situation. I find it really hard to hold it, and the palm of my hand keeps bumping the 4 way controller.

Plus I haven't bought anything in about 2 months!

Learn how to hold the K-01 differently, and keep it. You'll get almost nothing for it second hand anyway. It's a great compliment to a DSLR, and it shares batteries with the K-5, which is handy.

I find the K5 very easy to manual focus. Obviously focus peaking on the K-01 makes a different sort of experience. I certainly wouldn't trade my K5 for anything right now (even a full frame from another brand)...

Manual focus with the K-5 is not bad, but it's a step behind the K-01. The K-5 and other dSLRs are made to be used with the viewfinder first, and the Live View of the rear screen second. With the viewfinder, the an octagon on the info bar turns green when MF is achieved. It works pretty well, but you have to learn to trust it, which I haven't. With the rear screen, it works much like the K-01, but slower IME.

If MF is your thing, I'd stick with the K-01. If money is burning a hole in your pocket, go buy a nice MF lens or three.

Everyone in this thread says keep the K-01, which I decided to do, and buy a lens instead. Esp since I don't really have $5-600 just sitting around. Thanks everyone for the input!!

John, I looked at your blog. Nice stuff. I really like that you post what lens and settings you use and where you were standing and all that.

Makes me more enthusiastic about the K-01.
How did you do that moving self portrait on the train?
