Granted I am generalizing when I state my bias against teleconverters in the digital world.

There are good teleconverters, especially those meant to be matched with a specific lens. However, good teleconverters are not particularly inexpensive. And beginners in particular tend to look for the inexpensive type as a salvation against buying glass with a longer focal length. In a number of cases, a good teleconverter is close enough to the cost of a used longer focal length lens that the money would be better spent on the longer lens. While both well rated, the Pentax AF 1.7X for example, sells for US$400-$500 and the Kenko PZ 1.5X sells for US$200-$300. (those numbers came just now from a quick search via Google).

A couple of my favorite shots from the last week or so.

First a selfie.

Oldest daughter and me trying to use the pop up flash for fill. I really want to get at least a 560 II or III

Well, just hanging.

This underpass have been the home of some interesting chalk drawings as of late. Was lucky to pass by with cam on hand before it got wiped out. Red is what they call the city of Reading, PA on the streets.

What tripod and head were you using? What teleconverter? Did you use 2 second timer or a cable release? There are a number of things that could have made the teleconverter shots come out poorly which would be more visible with the increased magnification. Or if you are using an inferior converter it has no chance in the first place of being comparable to shots without it.

I used a fairly flimsy tripod so the stability it offered was questionable (thanks for raising that point). Also, the teleconverter used is a Telmac X2 with M42 mount - I have no idea of its pedigree as I acquired it with a bunch of other camera gear without being interested in it in the first instance.

I just got my K-30 a couple of weeks ago, so I'm still playing around with it. So far just some shots around my house. All in all, I'm very impressed with it. I've not really been using anything other than full manual, but I'm starting to play with some of the other options. Right now I just have the stock 18-135mm WR zoom.

Was marking photographs for deletion in LR and found this one self portrait. I thought it would serve well as the high contrast BW kinda photograph. Here it is.

Love that middle shot. For some reason that last one is good but there is a leave that keeps attracting my attention on the right of the frame. The first one is good to, but I prefer that middle one! Keep it up man!

1st Day of Shooting

I thought I'd share some of my favorite photos from my first day with my K-30. I'm really loving this camera. Feedback is welcome. You can see more pictures on my Flickr, if you'd like: Flickr: jonatizzle's Photostream

The clouds in southern Ontario lately are spectacular, especially taken with m K30, DAL 18-55 and polarizing filter.

Post Your K-30 Photos Here

I bought a remote release recently (online) and tested it out for a family portrait today. Worked amazingly (you can see it in my hand). Works with autofocus and at a good distance on the K30.

My fist day walking out with my Pentax-A 50mm 1.7
really hard to focus when wide open. So most of my shots where taken at 2-2.5 as I wanted to test what low aperture could do for me when compared to the 18-55 WR kit lens.

edit: as i remember the files below are untouched. I am using the silkypix that came with the camera and converted to JPEG. that's all
