Has anyone tried Sandisk Extreme Pro (45Mbyte/s) cards on the K-5

Okay, I admit I lost control and bought a Sandisk Extreme Pro card yesterday - waiting for it to arrive.

Is anyone else using this card and is there an improvement in write speed on the K-5?

I'm currently using the Sandisk Extreme (30 Mbyte/s) and it is significantly faster than my old PQI Class 6 card, but I wasn't sure the K-5 could take advantage of the 45Mbyte/s write speed

I ordered one with my K-5, last week, but it didn't arrive on time, so I don't have it with me, yet. I'm also interested to hear if anyone has experience with them.

I have the Sandisk Extreme Pro 16gig card and it seems to be working extremely well.

No, it's the new Extreme Pro that Sandisk announced in Jan 2011:
SanDisk ships Extreme Pro SDHC UHS-I memory card: Digital Photography Review

I am not sure the K-5 is UHS-I compatible - when I receive the card I'll try and compare it with my Extreme and see if there is an improvement.

No it's not compatible . Here what they say on the latest Firmware upgrade for SXDC card but the comment is for all SDHC

Compatible with SDXC memory card. * Transfer rate is not compatible with UHS speed class.

That just means the K-5 does not have the UHS-I 4-bit transfer mode, which allows up to 104MB/s.

Standard 1-bit transfer mode allows up to 25 MB/s - but many cards fall short of this theoretical transfer speed.

It will be interesting if the Extreme Pro gets closer to the theoretical limit compared to the Extreme. There's a lot more to the performance of a memory card than just the bus transfer speed.

I'm thinking about it.

Would you please look at http://https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-k-5-forum/128924-writespeed...card-test.html and if possible do the test inside your K-5 and see what writespeed is possible in camera?

RAW:
- At iso 5000 files are uge, almost 30 Mb for a single file with no (hood) cap on. In 15 sec. the camera took 31 RAW that where 920 Mb and after 52 seconds the red light was out, giving a filewrite off 17,7 MB/s including all processing. In 60 seconds the K-5 took 58 RAW giving 1,736 Gb of filesspace to fill. The difference of 27 files giving 816 MB to write in 45 seconds -> 18,1 Mb/s

I think that is the limitation of the K-5 or my card or the combination. The card is a classe 10 32Gb PQ1 card, and writemax according to the manufacture is 24,5 Mb/s (for what it's word since I haven't tested it myself) with 30 Mb/s readspeed.
Basicly it's about creating more file-body then the camera can digest so you can see the difference between processor speed to process and writespeed to the card.

Thanks!

Seriously overkill for normal photo taking but definitely handy if you shoot video a lot.

I shoot a lot at 7fps and like the buffer to clear as quickly as possible. The Extreme was a lot better than my previous Class 6 card - I'm hoping to get a bit extra with the Extreme Pro.

My thoughts to, a full buffer in RAW takes a real long time to clear, so shortening that time would be great.

Seems like a waste of money to me. It's more than 5X the price of a class 10 card. I've never had a problem with video or the buffer with a standard card, and can wait a second or two if I really tax the card. I guess if you really need it for your job, then it would be worth it.
