Upgraded, somedays I like to live dangerously.

I doubt I'll notice any difference with the photography I do though.

Ah, but as I understand it Pentax often does not disclose all the elements of a firmware upgrade. Could be that there is more here than simply a GPS fix.

Any Results?

So has anybody updated and found any differences? Anything good or bad or is it just as they say, only for their GPS system?

The FW also included a fix for a green button low light freezing issue that was reported a few months ago. However, it isn't reported in the list of things fixed.

I updated the firmware from 1.01 (the bought camera version) to 1.11 last month. Pentax claimed the auto focus was improved. I confirm that claim without doing any "testing". The focusing was noticably faster for me, and appeared to be more accurate. Lens used was 16-46 F4 ED AL. I now have a menu item for GPS , but no GPS unit to use it!. Also, as claimed, the ISO for bulb goes to 51200 instead of 1600. The faster focusing ability was the most useful for me, and worth the update.

As someone who works in the medical imaging hardware/software area, I can confirm that it's very common to put out patches and firmware updates without a comprehensive and detailed list of fixes. This also happens in the computer hardware/software area, so I would be surprised if Pentax is not doing the same. There are always minor fixes made that are never mentioned anywhere, sometimes not even documented in the source code, and there are many reasons why this is so.

I can assure you that Pentax did not release a new firmware only to fix a singe issue with the GPS unit. No way. There will be other fixes and improvements and hopefully not any broken features or new bugs, though this is always a possibility.

I will be upgrading my K-5 when I get home from work today.

Just updated mine, and it does look like the flash over-exposure problem is now fixed.
