Pentax K-50 Sample Photos

Here are some sample snapshots from the K-50. It feels & operates just like the K-30

The first 5 or so were taken with the 18-55mm WR kit lens, while the rest were taken with the new Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-F4 "C" lens.

The shots look like taken with a mobile phone . The camera can do much better than that I believe.

Those sunbursts look like they have 6 points. Does the Sigma have 6 blades, or were those the kit lens?

That one is the Sigma (see the exif, it says unknown lens). You can make out the faint more-than-six star flare.

Yup, every photo that shows a lens id is from the sigma.

Agree snapshots, would hope real life photos would be better than this.

Adam, did Pentax go with the newer sensor dust reduction system on the K-50 or did they keep the old one from the K-30? Thanks.

It's still got the older noisy one.

BTW, I've updated the photos in the thread. I've decreased the compression, and all are straight out-of-camera jpegs except for #8, which I had to fix in ACR.

How do you like using the new Sigma Contemporary 17-70 lens? How does it compare with version 2 or version 1? How about a comparison with the DA 18-135?

+1. Also, some shots of what the lens looks like on various Pentax bodies would be much appreciated. Maybe in the 17-70 C thread, so as to not hijack this one?

The results of this comparison I would very much be interested in.

Seems pretty sharp overall, and it gives you a lot of flexibility due to its relatively fast aperture. The design is nice, but it's still made of plastic, which means the build quality isn't quite as good as you might see in an "art" lens. The AF is fast and inaudible

The only issue I've observed so far is a good amount of barrel distortion at the wide settings and CA in the corners. I can certainly do a comparison with the 18-135mm.
