Generic hood for 45-85 FA

Have a 45-85 FA zoom lens arriving tomorrow, I got a good deal but not willing to shell out big bucks for the hood. (Only available copy on eBay is $150 right now!)

Anyone using a generic hood? Any cheaper alternate suggestions would be most welcome.

Regards,
Anthony

I've got a 77mm rubber 3-stage hood that I use on my UWA and it works. It's considerably cheaper than the price you quoted for the PH-RBD 77 bayonet hood. Perhaps it would serve for the 645 lens as well?

If your camera is on a tripod (like for landscapes) you can just use your hat I don't carry lens hoods with me, I just make sure to shade the front glass when making the exposure.

Check KEH online, I just got a Pentax 45-85 FA hood for $21 in EX condition. If none are available, keep checking, they seem to get a lot of gear turn over. I used a generic rubber hood before this, and wasn't that happy with it. At one point it fell off with a nice filter attached - recovered unharmed, but only because a good samaritan chased me down.

I have been using a 77mm threaded metal hood. It is a bit inconvenient but it works.

Thanks for the replies. I ordered a snap-in generic hood and we'll see how it works out. I will definitely keep watch on Keh and eBay for the genuine hood at a reasonable price.
